We're excited to announce our partnership with Pacific Biochar to launch the first biochar project on Climate Action Reserve. Pacific Biochar will leverage our digital MRV solution, Mangrove Nexus, to ensure every aspect of the project, from the sourcing of the biomass to the long-term storage of carbon, is measured and monitored with the highest level of precision and in accordance with the MRV requirements specified in Climate Action Reserve’s biochar protocol. “This partnership with Mangrove will ensure transparency and accuracy in our project data, meeting the rigorous demands of the Climate Action Reserve’s biochar protocol,” said Josiah Hunt, CEO of Pacific Biochar. “Our collaboration is an important step in scaling our operations and consistently delivering durable, verifiable carbon removal credits.” Learn more about the partnership in the comments below. #CDR #MRV #dMRV #Biochar #BCR

Pacific Biochar is honored to deliver the first truckload of biochar to Mike K. and his operation in Bakersfield, CA! To accomplish our mission to sequester carbon and leave a legacy of fertile soil, we believe it is imperative to produce and deploy high-quality biochar at an industrial scale from sustainable feedstocks. Our biochar is produced from non-merchantable woody residues and possesses numerous agricultural benefits, which you may delve deeper into here: https://lnkd.in/eRGyJSFv. If you're interested in exploring the benefits of biochar at your operation or would like to make a purchase, please give us a call at (707) 907-3106.

Restoration Soil and Research is on a mission to redefine the future of sustainable & regenerative agriculture by harnessing the potential of woody biomass waste.

We recently received our first truckload of biochar from our friends at Pacific Biochar! Josiah Hunt and Charlie McIntosh sent some beautiful material that's going into the ground in Bakersfield as we get ready to plant. It will be exciting to introduce biochar to commercial growers. 🏅The world’s #1 durable CDR supplier in 2023: Pacific Biochar🏅 This week’s carbon dioxide removal (#CDR) supplier spotlight features Pacific Biochar: top CDR supplier in 2023 (21% of all deliveries) and #2 on the all-time leaderboard (25.5Kt delivered). Founded in 2016 and based out of Santa Rosa, #California, they are on a mission to put carbon back in the ground and leave a legacy of fertile soil. How does Pacific Biochar operate? 🏭 Pacific Biochar uses a unique, low-capital approach that utilizes existing infrastructure by designing, engineering, and implementing modifications to biomass power plants which are then able to deliver CDR in quantities of 3,000 tCO2e to 15,000 tCO2e per year. 📈 Their modifications to existing biomass power plants for #biochar production leverage existing infrastructure, trained staff, and hard earned utility and procurement contracts which allows them to get to significant production volume fast. 🚜The high-quality biochar they make is then distributed primarily in agriculture, and commonly in collaboration with compost yards which increases efficiency and provides additional co-benefits by dropping greenhouse gas (#GHG) emissions from compost significantly. What is Pacific Biochar’s carbon removal strategy? 🌲 Pacific Biochar offers carbon dioxide removal with the tangible co-benefits of aiding forest management efforts in sourcing forest residue biomass, and improving soil health where the biochar is applied. 🔥 At Pacific Biochar’s California facilities their biochar is manufactured using forest biomass collected primarily from designated high fire hazard areas. Removing excess biomass is essential to reducing catastrophic fire danger and improving forest health. ⚡ Much of the excess forest biomass is chipped and then burned at biomass energy plants, producing power for the energy grid - energy that is considered carbon neutral. 📣Shoutout to Josiah Hunt, Annie Nichols, Charlie McIntosh, Ryan Hoffman, and the rest of the Pacific Biochar team - keep smashing those deliveries! #CarbonRemoval  #CarbonMarket  #biochar

🚨 We've just published the 5th harvest report from the Oasis Vineyard field trial, where biochar and compost treatments were applied to a low organic matter soil prior to planting of pinot noir wine grapes, using a randomized plot design with four replicates, and covering 8 acres near King City, CA. "After 7 years collecting data, covering 5 harvest seasons, significant emerging trends are highlighted with discussion below. 1. Harvest Yields were increased by an average of more than 35% where biochar and compost were applied together. 2. Harvest Yields by Season. In the lowest-yielding harvest years, all treatments showed exceptionally high percentage of yield improvement, with compost + biochar greater than 70% in the third harvest. 3. Economic Impact. All treatments had a positive return on investment by second harvest, and by fifth harvest provided $9,752, $12,569 and $14,937 additional revenue per acre where biochar, compost, and biochar+compost were applied, respectively. 4. Grape Quality was not significantly affected" 🍇 Full report with grape yield data, grape quality data, and economic analysis can be found here: https://lnkd.in/g7fxRduV

You may have heard the term "biochar" thrown around in recent climate conversations but may not know the carbon in biochar resists degradation and can hold carbon in soils for hundreds to thousands of years. In this episode, our Reserve in-house expert and Director of Nature-Based Solutions Jon Remucal, and CEO of Pacific Biochar Josiah Hunt will explore the potential uses of biochar, its ability to bring co-benefits to communities, and what a biochar project may look like under Climate Action Reserve's upcoming U.S. and Canada Biochar Protocol.
