Carolyn Meldgin, PhD’s mother, Susan Mellers, worked at Pacific Gas and Electric Company from 1972-88. Susan joined PG&E as a clerk. After teaching herself programming, Susan took a job in the Economics and Statistics Department, where she converted Fortran code (a high-level programming language for scientific and engineering applications) to PL/I (language for use by scientific and engineering programming). Carolyn, a manager in #Wildfire Data Science, remembers that her mother was one of the first members of PG&E’s Women’s Network Employee Resource Group when it started in 1975. She also remembers her mother being one of the first to have “Ms.” on her nameplate, rather than “Mrs.” or “Miss.” #WomensHistoryMonth #HERStory #ERG #DEIB #STEM

Sue Sponsel worked at Pacific Gas and Electric Company for 40 years. She was a godmother to Janet Jaramillo, an executive assistant in Electric Asset Management. “As I was growing up, we lived around the corner from each other. I’d often see her returning from work in her big white sneakers after her commute,” said Janet. “I imagined her like Mr. Rogers arriving at her desk in the mornings and changing her shoes to start the day.” Janet also recalls Sue being a champion for #safety. “I remember her talking about being in the office during the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake and how she started storing a mini go-bag at her desk after that,” said Janet. “She also made sure we had one at home too. “I feel lucky to get to share our PG&E bond in addition to everything else she has given me.” In the photo (left to right): Cece Jaramillo (Janet’s daughter), Janet Jaramillo, Denise Armstrong (Janet’s mom), Sue Sponsel (Janet’s Godmother). #WomensHistoryMonth #HERStory #DEIB

Ashley values her role in supporting PG&E’s 16 million #customers.
