Driving collective action for a pandemic-resilient world
About us
Launched in April 2020, Pandemic Action Network is a robust partnership of over 400 diverse organizations aligned in the belief that every effort made in the fight against COVID-19 should leave a long-term legacy — one where humanity is better prepared to deal with outbreaks and prevent a deadly and costly pandemic from happening again. We are advocates, communicators, strategists, campaigners, project managers, researchers, organizers, analysts, problem-solvers, business leaders, creatives, activists, and so much more. The challenges are too big and too many for any one single stakeholder or sector, but together we can #PandemicProof our future.

Proud to partner with Resilience Action Network Africa (RANA) and Afya na Haki on this effort to build resilient Ugandan communities alongside stakeholders representing climate, finance, food systems, gender, health systems, and R&D!
Resilience Action Network Africa (RANA) works with partners across Africa at the national and regional level to strengthen the continent’s resilience. We envision a resilient and healthy Africa, safeguarded by African-led solutions, informed by African needs, and driven by African leadership. To deliver on our vision, we are excited to partner with Afya na Haki and others to launch the RANA Uganda Working Group. The group will work together to positively impact Uganda’s resilience agenda, including health security, climate change, food systems, gender and intersectional justice, and financing.

"Hope doesn't lead to action, action leads to hope." David Miliband We are still reflecting on the powerful panel discussions at Pandemics, Climate, Conflict: Preventing Future Shocks, a UNGA side-event co-hosted by Pandemic Action Network, the Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response, and Resilience Action Network Africa (RANA). The panelists candidly shared their perspectives on the compounding shocks affecting lives today. Dr. Samia S. underscored this point, "You cannot look at climate without looking at health. It cannot be about trade offs or picking crises — they are all interconnected." The panelists connected the dots for an urgent long-view leadership approach to ensure the world is better prepared for a more resilient future. Because “Resilience takes time — and we must start now," as Dr. Ethel Maciel reminded the room. Thank you to our speakers for your insights and leadership: Her Excellency Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, The Right Honourable Helen Clark, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, President Juan Manuel Santos, David Miliband, Dr. Ethel Maciel, John-Arne Røttingen, Winnie Byanyima, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, Dr. Joanne Liu, MDCM, FRCPC, Dr. Samia S., and Eloise Todd.

Pandemics, climate, conflict. How is it possible that we neglect to act on these existential issues? Today at #UNGA, two fabulous panels reflected on these questions. My highlights: 🌍H.E. Ellen Sirleaf The Elders Foundation (on Ebola and pandemics): Success is when we place leadership in hands of local communities. We need strong values, participatory processes, and leaders willing to work for the common good. 🌏Helen Clark (on pandemics and the Summit of the Future): We need ambitious declarations, but without an articulation of “how” we will implement these, and with too many resolution caveats, these risk remaining empty plans. 🌍Zeid Ra’ad Al-Hussein The Elders Foundation (on mpox, INB/the Pandemic Agreement): There’s a deep distrust within the African group on equity toward HICs. One key challenge is that there has been no attempt to develop a common understanding of what equity means. Much food for thought on why negotiations fail (should we even try? should governments be given time to comment?), how leaders could be incentivized to invest in prevention and mitigation (it’s cheaper isn’t working..), and why we as a sector are poor at embracing complexity. Thanks Pandemic Action Network for hosting us and Eloise Todd for great moderation.
