On average in the 12 ad-supported Netflix only 5%-6% of catalog titles are local language, per Parrot Analytics’ Content Panorama. Yet local language programming, and specifically licensed local language movies, are driving more growth for Netflix's #AVOD tier than any other content type. 🚨 2025 is the year of Streaming Economics 🚨 Deadline Hollywood with an exclusive from Parrot Analytics on the economic performance of FIFTH SEASON's and Red Hour Films' 'Severance' on Apple TV+, with impressive first season subscriber impact and revenue figures. Congratulations Chris Rice, Ben Stiller and all teams involved! ❤️ Some global Streaming Economics figures for 𝘚𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 and other titles: 💎 "Severance‘s long-awaited second season returned to the small screen last Friday and research from Parrot Analytics has found that the first generated more than $200M for the tech giant." 💎 Parrot Analytics came to these figures via its Content Valuation methodology... The system examines how TV shows and movies generate value (via subscriber acquisition, retention & engagement) for streamers in markets across the globe. 💎 "As an acquisition driver, Parrot Analytics noted that the EMEA and Latin America regions have seen the greatest contribution from Severance." 💎 "According to Parrot Analytics, Severance is doing well compared with Apple hits like Slow Horses and The Morning Show. The former generated $184.8M during a similar timeframe to Severance Season 1, while the latter made $299.4M but across a much longer period of time. From Q3 2020 to Q3 2024, Ted Lasso, which has been teasing a fourth season, generated a whopping $609.4M." 💎 "Parrot Analytics’ research found that almost half of the revenue generated by Dan Erickson and Ben Stiller‘s hit came in the 12 months after the finale, which 'underscores the show’s unique ability to elicit catch-up viewing and rewatches from hungry fans'. It is perhaps no wonder then that Apple has chosen weekly drops for Severance Season 2." 💎 “'All of this, plus its healthy pre-release demand trends, sets the stage for a ‘break out sequel’ type of performance for Season 2, which would help Apple fill the anchor series void without Ted Lasso,' added Brandon Katz. When looking at the 28 days leading into the upcoming season, Severance Season 2 now compares favorably to rival hits such as Netflix's Cobra Kai, The Walt Disney Company's The Mandalorian and AMAZON PRIME's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, backing up Katz’s claim." Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) reported earnings with largely positive news for its direct-to-consumer (DTC) streaming business. While WBD reports subscribers at the total DTC level, Parrot Analytics’ Streaming Metrics can break out streaming economic performance by platform. In Q3 2024 the company saw its largest quarter-on-quarter growth in subscribers to 110.5 million subscribers, which translated to a 9% growth in revenue for the DTC segment, largely driven by increasing subscribers in international markets. Domestic revenue growth slowed for most of the year following the company’s merger in Q2 2022, culminating in an outright decline in DTC revenue in Q3 2023. This was due in part to declining revenue from Discovery+, which our model estimates accounts for 12% of the revenue for the company’s DTC segment. Since the end of 2023 domestic DTC revenue growth has been reaccelerating which is good news for the company’s financial prospects given that the domestic region is the most profitable with the highest average revenue per user.
