sharing knowledge and practice to improve participatory grantmaking and encourage its use within philanthropy
About us
The Participatory Grantmakers Community is a global collective of individuals and organizations interested in sharing knowledge and practice to improve participatory grantmaking and encourage its use within philanthropy. We support each other through peer-to-peer learning, resource sharing, and advocacy. We believe that when grantmaking processes are designed and owned by communities themselves, philanthropy will be more effective, democratic, and just. We believe in self-determination We are rooted in values of anti-oppression and equity We value accountability and transparency We move with care, love, and joy Participatory grantmaking cedes decision-making power about funding decisions and strategy to the communities that funders and foundations aim to serve.

We are living and working in a myriad of crises. It’s always insightful to see how we are all navigating the funding systems during polycrisis. 🌟Check out this report from our members at Fenomenal Funds on how Women’s Funds are doing it.
A polycrisis refers to the intersection of multiple crises, where their combined impact is greater than the sum of individual effects. Our report explores how Women's Funds navigate these complex contextual challenges. 📣 We are excited to host our fall public event themed: "Participatory Grantmaking During Polycrisis" in collaboration with Nino Ugrekhelidze of Dalan Fund Ruby Johnson of The Global Resilience Fund and Yara Dowani from @Rawa Fund. The conversation will be moderated by Coco Gervis, from Mama Cash. As the world navigates polycrisis resulting from climate change, authoritarian regimes, and a disregard for human rights, the philanthropy sector is called to respond. However, we’re also challenged, not only by the complex environment but by the sector’s typical ways of working. We are collaborating with our members to explore how Participatory Grantmaking (PGM) can adapt and respond amidst polycrises, ensuring it protects and uplifts communities in the face of complex challenges while deepening our commitment to participatory practice. We will collectively address the question: How do we continue to deepen PGM practice amidst these crises in a way that protects and uplifts communities? 🔗 RSVP https://lnkd.in/g3JzVmdV to join us. #ParticipatoryGrantmaking #ShiftingPower #Philanthropy

In time of polycrisis, which we all face, it becomes even more important to utilize participatory practices, support local communities and activists.
