The presidential #election in the US is now mere weeks away. As #AI-generated deepfakes become increasingly realistic, it’s very likely that we’ll be faced with a lot more AI-generated misinformation. A new public service announcement about celebrity #deepfakes aims to tackle that. 👀 RepresentUs organized the campaign, which debuted on Oct. 22. It featured the likenesses of numerous celebrities like Rosario Dawson, Jonathan Scott, Laura Dern, Michael Douglas, and Amy Schumer but only some of them are real. The clip features the stars explaining some of the most common deepfakes you will likely encounter. This includes misinformation like voting time, documentation, and location. 🤔 Watch the clip, read what one of the campaign organizers had to say about creating the video, and more at the link below. 👇 https://lnkd.in/gfADYxPq

Performers guild SAG-AFTRA has called for its members to stop working on #LeagueofLegends. The union is claiming that its producer, Formosa Interactive, tried to bypass a strike currently taking place over a different video game produced by Formosa. The union didn’t specify which video game title this was. 🎮 Formosa Interactive specifically is the arm of Formosa Group that provides League of Legends’ voiceover work. The union claims that Formosa “tried to subvert” its ongoing strike. Allegedly, the publisher did this by attempting to hire non-union performers through a shell company. 🪧 Consequently, #SAGAFTRA filed an unfair labor practice charge against Formosa. The union did this via the National Labor Relations Board, claiming that Formosa is violating labor laws. People say #GenZ spends too much time on their phones, but do they actually enjoy it? According to a new #socialmedia survey by psychologist Jonathan Haidt, they might not. 👀 Haidt and his research team, The Harris Poll, collated the thoughts of 1,006 18-27-year-olds regarding social media. ⬇ While over 60% reported using social media for four or more hours a day, approximately half of them said they wished platforms like #X (50%) and #TikTok (47%) didn’t exist. Meanwhile, 43% of users had similar feelings about #Snapchat, while 37% and 34%, respectively, said that they felt that way about #Facebook and #Instagram. By contrast, the smartphone itself and platforms like #Netflix and #YouTube had the lowest regret rates at 21%, 17%, and 15%, respectively. In a New York Times op-ed, Haidt argued that this data suggests that “if smartphones merely let people text each other, watch movies and search for helpful information or interesting videos (without personalized recommendation algorithms intended to hook users), there would be far less regret and resentment.” 🤔 https://lnkd.in/dN6fHGGd

On August 13, a diverse group of 100 creators, with a combined audience reach of over 110 million people, and creator economy professionals attended the first-ever White House Creator Economy Conference. The six-hour event took place in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building next to the White House. It featured five discussion panels and one-on-one conversations. Topics for the day focused on mental health, artificial intelligence (“AI”), fair and equitable pay, and long term financial stability for creators. Franklin Graves, an adjunct law professor and researcher at Emerson College and New England Law, focused on the intersections of law, policy, and the creator economy shares his personal experience at the conference.👇

#Meta is courting Hollywood stars like Judi Dench, Keegan-Michael Key, and Awkwafina in multi-million dollar deals. The offer would give the tech company the right to record and use celebrity voices for AI-related projects. 🎬 📲 According to Bloomberg, Meta is “racing to close deals” to formally introduce some of its new #AI tools in time for its virtual tech conference, #Connect2024, in September. However, insiders familiar with these negotiations told Bloomberg that talks with #Hollywood representatives broke down numerous times already. 👀 https://lnkd.in/gYdjG_dq

We want to see more #creators getting paid. 🤩 Krishna Subramanian, CEO and co-founder of Captiv8 influencer marketing agency, reports that back in 2021, rates for TikTok micro-influencers (which refers to those with 5,000-20,000 followers) ranged from $1,000 to $3,000. But now, three years later, those rates have increased to $3,000-$5,000. 👀 According to Digiday, industry experts are saying that the rise in costs is because #influencermarketing as a concept has “matured” and become a more commonplace feature in advertising budgets. 🙌 And #creators want to be valued for their work! 🤝 A new study by influencer marketing platform IZEA found that more than half of 18- to 60-year-olds would be ready to pack it all in and become full-time #influencers if they could make a living doing it. 36% of influencers surveyed had a household income of $100,000 to $199,000 in 2023. This is an 11% increase from last year. 📲 IZEA CEO and founder Ted Murphy said that “this shift is not just a fleeting trend; it’s reshaping the future of work. It’s a testament to how digital platforms are reshaping traditional employment models.” 🗣 We love to see it.

Influencers are taking on the role of investor through innovative brand partnerships, redefining the traditional influencer-brand relationship. 🤔 Curious how? I got you covered with my latest article diving into a recent video from TikTok influencer Alix Earle and her new investment in poppi, the viral soda brand. Under the creator-investor model, brands leverage the authenticity of creators and creators expand their business portfolios, shaping the future of brand partnerships. ✋ What seems simple at first, is actually rather complex when structuring the overall deal. “The tough part with equity or investment deals is that it sounds really sexy, but it’s a long game,” explained Creative Artists Agency’s Tobin Jaramillo 🔥 “In this instance, there’s an outlay of cash,” he notes. “And there might not be any sort of profit, or realization of profit, for a while, if ever.” Check out the full article over on Passionfruit for all the details! I also have some great insights by creator attorney Tyler Chou (who you should definitely be following here on LinkedIn) 🗣️ Also, feel free to hit me up here with comments or thoughts. Big shout out to Lia Haberman (another require follows!) for flagging this video over the weekend 🥳 https://lnkd.in/eux_ga6t #creator #CreatorEconomy #influencers #brands #partnerships #equity
