Empowering families with children to get back into housing and stay there.

About us

Path Home empowers families with children to get back into housing and stay there. Path Home offers programs from crisis to stability: Outreach - families experiencing homelessness, who oftentimes are living in tents or in their cars, get help accessing critical shelter and re-housing resources. Family Village – A shelter where 17 families with kids stay at a time in individual, private bedrooms. The first shelter in Oregon with trauma-informed design & architecture, our shelter provides opportunities for playing, healing, and rebuilding after homelessness, and offers support to help families move back into stable housing. Rapid Re-Housing – Families experiencing homelessness move back into housing. PHFS provides rent assistance, case management, and retention services to help families stay housed. Families create action plans to increase their financial stability, navigate community resources, access medical, mental health, and recovery care, and gain educational and employment opportunities. 88% of families keep their housing long-term. Homeless Prevention – Families at risk of eviction get help keeping their housing with flexible and responsive assistance. PHFS provides rent and utility support for families facing emergencies which may otherwise lead them to homelessness. Basic Income Guarantee – our newest program, PHFS provides $575 cash to families each month for two years. Our goal is that families will increase financial security, reduce debt, have more time to spend with family, and increase their joy and wellness. This cash transfer pilot project is based on worldwide research that shows the fastest way to end poverty is by giving people cash and letting them choose how to use it.

We at Our Just Future are alarmed by a recent proposal from three Portland City Council members to withdraw funding from the Joint Office of Homeless Services. This office plays a crucial role in providing emergency shelter and essential support to individuals experiencing homelessness—services that are more vitally important for the welfare of our community. If this proposal goes through, it could dismantle the collaborative efforts that have been key in addressing the housing crisis, exacerbating the struggles of our most vulnerable community members. We cannot allow this to happen.  We stand firmly with our partners who have raised significant concerns about the impact of this decision. It is time for us to unite and advocate for ongoing collaboration between the City and County, ensuring that everyone has access to the support they need. We have signed onto a letter with dozens of agencies who object to this proposal. We invite you to take action, as well! Add your voice by signing onto the letter expressing opposition to this proposal. Your support can make a difference and help protect essential services for those who need them most. 👉 https://lnkd.in/g7uAMrXR To learn more about the implications of this proposal check out the link in our comments to a recent article. Together, we can work toward a just future for all. #Advocacy #CommunitySupport #Homelessness #OurJustFuture #Portland #TakeAction

Samuel (Stability Program Manager) and Debra Vanderwerf (Program Director) had the pleasure of attending the 22nd annual Basic Income Guarantee Conference and meeting conference founders Dr. Eri Noguchi and Michael Lewis! The BIG Conference brings together politicians, policy makers, research scientists, direct service agencies, activists, and advocates from all over the world to continue building the movement for basic income in the U.S. Beyond being wildly inspirational, the team’s key takeaways were: ⚡Basic income programs are a proven, evidence-based practice. We don't need more randomized control trials, we need large scale investment in basic income programs! ⚡ Basic Income has been researched for decades, with countless randomized control trials in cities and states all over the country (and the world!) all finding the same results: giving people cash helps lift them out of poverty and creates the autonomy and determination that leads to stability and advancement. ⚡Community is key! ⚡ The conference’s biggest success stories were programs that focused on infusing cash into whole communities by providing basic income to  all the individuals within it. Fostering and focusing on community in a conscious and coordinated way while alleviating poverty through basic income appeared to amplify and bolster the effects of the cash infusions and made those effects longer lasting! Path Home is building on this proven solution with our own cash transfer program that is currently serving 20 families - more than triple the size of our first cohort of 6 families. 🌟 Help Path Home spread the word about trauma-informed design at SXSW! 🌟 Vote for Brandi Tuck and Jessica Helgerson's session proposal for SXSW’s Panel Picker! This discussion, led by design expert Jessica Helgerson and our very own Brandi Tuck, will explore how the spaces we inhabit can either contribute to our stress or help us heal. Path Home’s trauma-informed approach works - we served 564 families last year and 87% of families kept their homes long term. Now we want to advocate for trauma informed design in as many spaces as possible to help even more people benefit from this proven model! Voting is now open, and your support can bring this important topic to the stage. Help us spread the word that spaces matter and get more people creating spaces that nurture wellbeing. 🗳️ https://lnkd.in/g6zHbYzK
