Talking about mental health can be challenging for parents, especially when starting these conversations with teens. However, avoiding these discussions may leave kids feeling isolated, rather than providing them with a safe space to express their emotions. To help bridge this gap, our Regional Medical Director, Elizabeth Wassenaar, MS, MD, DFAPA, CEDS-S, shared valuable tips on how parents can approach tough conversations with their teens during an interview with Denver 9News. A special shoutout to Stamp of Sunshine for sharing the amazing work they do at our Clinicians Networking Evening last week! 🥹 Such an amazing mission! 🧡
Every day, clinicians encounter patients who are struggling with isolation and loneliness. Mental health conditions like eating disorders thrive in secrecy, making community and connection so important to recovery. I met Alexandra, founder of the 501c3, Stamp of Sunshine, last winter and was hooked by their mission. They do pop up events at cafes, breweries, and on airplanes flying across the country, where they make connection a fun and free activity. Stamp of Sunshine provides free postcards and postage stamps for their audience to send a note to a loved one, then takes it a step further and handles the mailing, making it oh so easy to participate. In a time where many of our connections are virtual, there is something so special and sweet about receiving a handwritten note from someone who cares about you. Thank you, Alexandra Mamalakis, for sharing your work at the Eating Recovery Center and Pathlight Mood & Anxiety Center Chicago clinicians networking evening last week!

It's not "just anxiety." Anxiety is a real and valid mental health struggle that can seriously impact people’s entire lives, and invalidating their experiences only deters them from reaching out for the help they need and deserve. 🧡 If you or someone you know is in need of mental health support, head to our website for resources (support groups, treatment, blogs, podcasts): https://bit.ly/3XH6xm3
