About us
PBWC provides skill development, networking opportunities and inspiration to women at all levels to achieve their own ambitions and collectively advance gender equity in professional settings. PBWC was founded in 1989 by United States Congresswoman Jackie Speier. The spark for its creation was lit by the overwhelming response to a Women’s Day for San Mateo County Women event led by Speier in 1988. PBWC is headquartered in Northern California, and is one of the largest women’s organizations, boasting a diverse community of over 42,000 professionals worldwide, corporate sponsors and media partners. It conducts community events, monthly webinars and conferences for women’s professional and personal growth and development through tools, training workshops, resources, mentoring and motivation. The organization also presents an annual academic scholarship to high-achieving high school seniors Californian women.

On the anniversary of the 19th Amendment, we celebrate Women’s Equality Day by honoring the achievements of women and acknowledging the ongoing fight for gender equality. We will reclaim our bodily autonomy and advocate for equal pay and opportunity and investment in professional women. We will realize a future where a leader is simply a leader—not defined by gender. #WomensEqualityDay #EqualRights #GenderEquality #WomenSupportingWomen

Yesterday, we co-hosted an insightful and intimate event, “Embracing Your Next Act” with our Education Partner University of California, Davis - Graduate School of Management! Professor Gina Dokko, Ph.D. shared her valuable research on career transitions. Attendees explored the meaning of work and participated in thought-provoking conversations. A big thank you to the UC Davis Graduate School of Management for hosting such a lovely event at their San Ramon campus. Special appreciation goes to Professor Dokko, Brian Risi, M.A., Elizabeth Mayo, and Amy Russell for making it truly impactful.

PBWC mourns the loss of Susan Wojcicki, former YouTube CEO, whose legacy of leadership will endure through all of those she inspired. Ms. Wojcicki spoke at PBWC in 2019. At PBWC in May 2024, she was described as one of the strongest female executives, in part due to her integrity and superb communication skills. Our thoughts are with her loved ones during this difficult time.

Full-time, year-round working moms earn 75 cents compared to the dollar of a full-time working dad--and the gap widens as women climb the corporate ladder! Fair compensation, paid family leave, and affordable childcare are essential catalysts for change. Mothers deserve equal pay and equal opportunity. #MomsEqualPayDay
