A successful summit of the tower crane at the Providence Swedish First Hill Campus Expansion project with Mortenson! PCS's Georgi and McKell got the opportunity to ascend to the top of the tower crane for a unique view (+267ft) of the new North Tower's construction progress, designed by Perkins&Will. We are all excited for the continued progress of this project as we get closer and closer to this facility opening and serving the local community - estimated for early 2027. Grateful for our talented construction and design partners!

The Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Youth’s Washington School for the Deaf (WSD) is featured in Architectural Record! The article explores the design process—focused on learning and immersion in Deaf culture—and resulting mass timber buildings tuned to support ASL-bilingual communication and community at WSD. Remarkably, the effort reflects both careful specializations aligned to DeafSpace principles and broad relevance to all built environments. Author Joann Gonchar, FAIA, LEED AP sums it up: “This kind of thoughtful consideration of details can improve any educational setting—those for students who are hearing-impaired, or are neurodiverse, or in the general school population.” Read the article: https://lnkd.in/g5KZMUpx Project team members include: Washington State Department of Enterprise Services, project management; Skanska, progressive design-build team leader; Mithun, architecture, interior design and landscape architecture; Hansel Bauman and Robert T. Sirvage, DeafSpace experts; PCS Structural Solutions, structural engineer; Harper Houf Peterson Righellis Inc., civil engineer; Glumac and JH Kelly, LLC, design-build MEP; A3 Acoustics, LLP, acoustics; Dark Light Design, lighting; Halliday Associates, food service; Mayer/Reed, Inc., environmental graphics + signage; O'Brien360, LEED consultant; Säzän Group Inc., Commissioning Agent; The Avidcraft PLLC, specifications; and Qualified Enclosure Consultants, envelope consulting.

#HappyNationalMentoringDay! PCS has been involved with ACE mentoring in our Tacoma office for several years, hosting biweekly meetings and introducing high school students to the world of structural engineering. ACE is an after school mentorship program for highschoolers where they are introduced to every aspect of the Architecture, Construction, and Engineering industries. Mentors guide students through a year long real-world design project culminating with final presentations in front of a panel of owner's representatives. Thank you to PCS's Jaycob Greissl and Jeff Klein for the roles you've both played in this year's ACE Mentorship program!

Congratulations, Fife High School STEAM Center of Innovation on earning Learning by Design’s Outstanding Project Award. The STEAM Center of Innovation at Fife High School is designed to foster active learning through a focus on hands-on creation and decision-making. The building's exposed systems and structures symbolize the dynamic process of learning, allowing students to make discoveries and bring ideas to life. Architecturally, it sets a vision for the future of Fife High School, presenting a modern face to the community that reflects the current high quality of education while establishing a standard for future expansions. Inside, the classrooms surround double-height spaces filled with diffused natural light, with these "in-between" areas serving as vital connectors for students, maintaining a sense of connection throughout the building. A limited palette of materials—like brick, which conveys a sense of permanence—complements the verticality of the exposed structure. Heavy timbers supporting the simple shed roof reflect the building’s Pacific Northwest roots, while strategically placed windows maximize daylight for all classrooms. Congratulations, Fife School District! McGranahanPBK 📸 arthurrossphoto

TCF’s design team worked on Key Peninsula Middle School and Kopachuck Middle School simultaneously for Peninsula School District. A strategy to develop a consistent design theme that would translate well at both schools was requested, with the only obvious variation being the color palette to reflect each school’s colors. Home to the Cougars in Lakebay, WA, Key Peninsula is a building modernization with an administration wing addition and gym expansion. Originally built in the early 1980s, the project goal was to improve functionality and flow of interior spaces, provide fresh new signage to enhance wayfinding, and maximize natural light to better the overall learning environment. The building’s entrance was redesigned with an additional vestibule for accessibility along with concrete ramps, steps, and a freshly landscaped plaza.
