The Economists' top five "Most Innovative" countries this year reveal an interesting pattern: Switzerland Sweden United States Singapore United Kingdom Three of the top five start with an "S"—could it be that "S"-named countries with Small populations have a Secret edge? 😄 And, not to overlook, English-speaking countries keep a strong foothold on the list too! But beyond letters and languages, early innovation leaders build lasting momentum. They have the $'s to reinvest in social institutions, creating cycles of growth that make them even tougher to catch up with. Great to hear Christine Lagarde cover a range of topics from the Mario Draghi recommendations for the EU, Digitalization and its implications - BOTH OF WHICH she says deserve urgent action, and where she stated the European Central Bank has a well equipped toolbox to support. She appears to be very supportive of further increases in global trade and spoke about the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) initiatives underway "we owe it to future generations to build the alternative of digital currency" to have Central Bank's keep people's trust in the system "in Euro we trust" even as payments go digital, while it will come with less anonymity than cash, to do it with as much privacy as possible. The digital Euro is in the exploratory 2 year process which will complete at the end of 2025 and legislation will be introduced then to the EU parliament - the goal is simplifying and reducing friction, increasing speed of people to people, point of sale payments, provide for off-hours payments in a cheap fast, transparent way.
