Read some exciting news this week: Femtech dealmaking is making a comeback! According to PitchBook, investments in companies focused on women's and reproductive health are recovering strongly. After a time when investors were hesitant due to legal challenges and a weak fundraising environment, funding for femtech startups has not only rebounded, but has already exceeded the total amount invested in 2023! So far in 2024, $980 million has been invested across 64 separate femtech deals. This is a significant increase from 2023's total of $840 million, which was spread over 94 deals! According to Pitch Book, these are the most active investors in the femtech sector since 2019, in order of increasing deal size: 🌟 SOSV ➡️investor in healthtech sector, backed kegg, a fertility tracking platform Median deal size: $1.5M 🌟 Everywhere Ventures ➡️ pre-seed investor that has backed Flora, a fertility insurance benefits startup, and Aster, a women’s health patient management platform. Median deal size: $2.5M 🌟 Calm/Storm Ventures ➡️ invests in pre-seed and seed-stage startups based in EUROPE backed @Fertifa, an employer benefits platform for reproductive healthcare, and inne, a hormonal health company Median deal size: $2.5M 🌟Joyance Partners ➡️ investing in startups from pre-seed to Series A stages backed Millie, a maternal health clinic startup, and Rosy Wellness, an online women’s healthcare platform Median deal size: $3.8M 🌟 Avestria Ventures ➡️ women’s health seed-stage investor that has invested in startups like Mae, a pregnancy and postpartum support platform catering to people of color Median deal size: $5M 🌟 SteelSky Ventures ➡️ women’s health-focused venture firm whose portfolio includes Proov, an at-home pregnancy diagnostic startup, and Lark, a chronic health management platform centered around women Median deal size: $5.1M 🌟Alumni Ventures ➡️ early-stage investor backed Evernow, a telehealth platform for women experiencing menopause, and TwentyEight, an online reproductive health platform Median deal size: $7.9M 🌟 RH Capital ➡️ invests in startups focused on women’s health, backed AOA Dx, an ovarian detection and diagnosis startup, as well as Cirqle, a contraception technology company Median deal size: $10M 🌟 Gaingels ➡️ VC firm focuses on investing in companies with diverse and underrepresented leadership as well as progressive social values, backed Maven, a telehealth women’s health platform, and Willow, a direct-to-consumer breast pump developer Median deal size: $14.2M 🌟 GV (Google Ventures) ➡️ venture investing arm of Alphabet that has backed Midi Health, Allara Health, Kindbody Median deal size: $34M Interested in learning more, read Jacob Robbins Pitch Book article.
