#EmployeeSpotlight: This Physician Assistant Week, meet Rachel. She has been a valued member of PIH Health for a year, bringing 13 years of experience as a physician assistant (PA) to her role at Whittwood Family Medicine MOB. Inspired by a family member’s health struggle, Rachel pursued a career in medicine to make a positive impact on patients’ lives. She values the relationships and trust she builds with her patients as a primary care provider. In addition to treating both acute and chronic conditions, she emphasizes preventative care, advocating for early detection through regular cancer screenings. “I wanted to pursue a career that helped patients in medical need and make a positive impact in patients and their family’s lives,” she shares. One of her most rewarding moments was witnessing a diabetic patient overcome her fears, make lifestyle changes, and successfully discontinue her medications. Rachel is proud to be part of the PIH Health team because of its collaborative environment that allows her and her colleagues to provide patients with the highest level of care. Outside of work as a PA, Rachel enjoys outdoor activities with her family and volunteering at her children's school and Cub Scout pack. Congratulations to Aryanne, registered nurse from 4 Tower at PIH Health Whittier Hospital, for winning the DAISY Award and to Eric, Unit Clerk from 4 Tower at PIH Health Whittier Hospital, for winning the BEE Award! They have been recognized for their exceptional efforts to comfort a long-time patient with pancreatic cancer. Aryanne formed a special bond with the patient, often sharing jokes and laughter. When he went home on hospice, he craved the hospital's orange Italian ice, the only thing that his stomach could tolerate. His wife called the unit, explaining that she couldn't find a similar treat in stores. Aryanne, with the help of Unit Clerk Eric, gathered as many orange Italian ices as they could from various units and made a special care package to surprise the patient. The patient's wife picked it up, deeply grateful for the thought and effort that Aryanne and Eric put into the package. PIH Health thanks Aryanne and Eric for their extraordinary dedication to putting Patients First.
