This is because the IRS requires you to report all of your employees yearly wages using a W2 form. Interns are typically hired as W-2 employees, ensuring they are part of your payroll. 𝟭𝟬𝟵𝟵 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 1099 workers can fall under various titles including contractors, freelancers and other gig-workers. These workers are typically business owners (self-employed) who provide a service to your company but are not included on your payroll. Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is a fantastic option for hiring international students who are already studying in the U.S. under an F-1 visa. It allows them to gain practical experience in their field of study while they’re still in school. Internships are one of the most common ways students use CPT. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗖𝗣𝗧 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 • 𝗘𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Most international students on an F-1 visa can start working on CPT after they’ve completed one year of full-time academic study. Once you extend an offer, you’ll need to provide a letter confirming the details like the internship start and end dates, the job title, and a description of what they’ll be doing.
