We've seen a remarkable 43% drop in early syphilis cases among female-identifying patients in San Bernardino and Orange Counties since 2021, thanks to our expanded STI screening efforts. Dr. Shayne Poulin shared with IE Community News that, "By making testing easily accessible and integrating it into routine care, we are catching more cases early and ensuring timely treatment." During the same period, congenital syphilis cases in San Bernardino County have decreased by 45%, according to the county health department. Despite these successes and the essential services we provide, our efforts to open a new health center in Fontana—a city in San Bernardino County with some of the highest STI rates in the nation—have faced resistance. The city council has blocked construction, a decision we are currently challenging in court.
