A global alliance of organizations, businesses & policymakers working toward a world free of plastic pollution.
About us
The Plastic Pollution Coalition is a global, strategic alliance of individuals, organizations, and businesses working together to end plastic pollution and its toxic impacts on people, animals, and the environment. Plastic pollution is an emerging environmental problem of dramatic proportions. In every stage of its existence, plastic is toxic and creates pollution. It is a material that the Earth cannot digest, and once produced, it stays with us forever. We focus on ending our reliance on single-use and disposable plastics and one bridging like-minded activists and organizations on six continents. The Plastic Pollution Coalition is a project of Earth Island Institute in Berkeley, California, USA.

🌍💧 Today is #WorldWaterDay, and we’re drawing attention to the connection between plastic pollution and water injustice with Intersectional Environmentalist. In the U.S., millions lack access to safe, clean drinking water, with low-income, rural, and communities of color impacted the most. While plastic bottled water is marketed as a safe alternative, in reality, it intensifies environmental and health crises. Bottled water contributes to plastic pollution, contains harmful chemicals, and is more expensive than tap water. Through our #FilteredNotBottled campaign, we advocate for safe drinking water for all communities, free from plastic pollution. 📝 Join us by signing the petition to urge the EPA to take immediate action: https://lnkd.in/gXN3NB66 #PlasticPollutes #BreakFreeFromPlastic

We can't let Industry influence Environmental Producer Responsibility laws. It delays and distracts from real solutions—and ultimately reduces the effectiveness of California's existing plastic reduction laws. #PlasticPollutes #BreakFreeFromPlastic

✊🏾 The fight for environmental justice is inseparable from the fight for human rights, and we will not be silenced. Break Free From Plastic strongly condemns the recent ruling by a North Dakota court that found Greenpeace, a member of BFFP, liable for hundreds of millions of dollars in damages in favor of Energy Transfer and its Dakota Access Pipeline project, stressing that the decision represents a blatant attack on environmental defenders, a threat to Indigenous rights, environmental justice, and a dangerous erosion of the right to free speech and peaceful protest. “There’s never a good end of life for plastics. Whether it’s in 10 years or 100 years or 500, they’re going to end up as pollution, whether it’s in our landfills, in our bodies, or in our oceans.”—Aidan Maguire, Plastic Pollution Coalition #PlasticPollutes #BreakFreeFromPlastic

While straws make headlines, the real issue is the mass production and use of single-use plastics. The plastics industry promotes products like bottled water as safe, but they’re actually polluting our bodies and the planet with microplastics and toxic chemicals. How can we ensure safe drinking water for all—without adding to the plastic pollution crisis? 💧Join Plastic Pollution Coalition for a critical discussion with experts on how we can provide access to filtered water and advocate for policy change. #PlasticPollutes #BreakFreeFromPlastic #WaterEquity #FilteredNotBottled
