Director of Ideation @ PMC | design, research, neuroscience, furniture | I help organizations create spaces where people want to be
Feeling like you've hit a wall with your employees when it comes to office attendance? You're not alone. Many employers want to avoid strict return-to-office mandates and instead set clear expectations for in-office days. But.... your employees aren't meeting those expectations. And the reason might surprise you. It's not about the number of days in the office, but whether the workplace environment actually helps your employees perform better. So..... how do you define an effective workplace environment that motivates people to come to the office? It's the million-dollar question. What if there was a more definitive way to design your office that truly boosts employee performance? A way backed by solid evidence—not the latest trends, vague KPIs, or no data at all? Well, there is! It's called Neurodesign. Sounds complex, I know, but it's a fascinating, multi-disciplinary approach that takes into consideration the brain and how it is wired to interact with the built environment. By understanding the brain’s evolution and chemical makeup, Neurodesign offers scientific proof that investing in the design of your workplace can pay off in performance. It's an exciting concept, and you'll definitely want to learn more! Stay tuned for insights that just might blow your brain! 🤯 Want to learn more? 👀 Follow me for more valuable insights and tips. ✔️ Check out our website to learn more about what we do. ✉️ Send me a note for a free one-on-one consultation.

To mandate, or not to mandate – that is the question. According to the CBRE 2024 Americas Report, around 80% of organizations have implemented return-to-office policies, yet only 17% are actively enforcing them. While 60% of employers expect staff to be in the office at least three days a week, only 51% of employees meet that expectation. For the 37% of employees who attend the office 1-2 days a week, just 17% of employers are satisfied with that attendance. In short, many American employers are not happy with office attendance. Now, let’s zoom in on our local market. The Best Places to Work in the Triangle, a program that measures employee engagement and workplace dynamics, gives us a look at the top 51 companies: • 59% of companies do not have specific policies for in-office attendance • 41% have set policies, requiring 2 days, 3 days, or full-time in the office However, what this data doesn’t reveal is: • Employers’ sentiments about the amount of time employees spend in the office • Whether these policies are being enforced Yet, these companies are getting something right—they’re recognized as great places to work. So, does it matter whether employees are mandated to be in the office? It does if your company's success depends on the - • enhanced communication and collaboration • stronger team dynamic • faster decision-making • deeper cultural connection • easier onboarding and training - that only a physical workspace can provide. And believe it or not, your employees might agree. According to Gensler’s 2024 Workplace Study, employees aren’t as concerned about whether they should come into the office, but how the office environment will help them do their best work. Instead of debating mandates, let’s shift the focus to what truly matters: eliminating the friction that hinders productivity. When you create a workspace where people feel empowered to do their best work—where progress is faster, results are better, and contributions are more meaningful—you build a place employees want to return to, day after day. Stay tuned and I'll tell you how... Yesterday our PMC Commercial Interiors South Carolina Offices kicked off our Make-A-Wish campaign. We enjoyed learning all about the incredible work Make-A-Wish does, and how we can help make a meaningful impact. A special thanks to Kea Wade, CNP and Misty Farmer for their support in getting this initiative started, and for giving us the opportunity to hear from Make-A-Wish alumni Nate and his family. Our goal is to sponsor 3 kids this year to get their wish! Did you know that there are over 40 kids in Greenville county alone waiting on their wish, and over 100 in the Upstate? If you’d like to help us to reach our goal and be a part of giving these special kids their dream, please donate using the link below. Even $5 goes a long way when many people give! https://lnkd.in/esUYCW57
