Did you know that all of my SEO lists on Podcast Review could feature your show... tomorrow? If you're struggling with podcast discovery, you might want to read this. If you're a newsletter subscriber, you'll have seen our Email Sponsorship option which goes out weekly to over 12,000+ audio fans. But we also offer Editorial Sponsorship slots on our SEO articles, such as "Best Poetry Podcasts" and "Best Self Help Podcasts". I update these SEO lists every year and spend hours researching and writing every blurb. Here's why a sponsorship option might be best for your podcast: 1. Many of these categories are becoming more competitive every year 2. My tastes (though pretty good, in my opinion) are ultimately subjective 3. Your new show might have just missed the update window 4. You want to drive traffic to your show but struggle with Google's recent algorithm updates 5. You're not reaching your specific audience (food lovers, audio fiction fans, parents, etc.) I don't usually advertise the monetization side of what we do at Podcast Review. But recent conversations about poor podcast discovery options made me realise that this could be a solution that many of you are seeking - and nobody knows about it! Important Disclaimer: We keep our sponsorships transparent. We're picky about who we allow to sponsor our website and newsletter - and we never take money to influence our choices when writing reviews or lists. We've always been about real criticism and quality writing from Day 1 while navigating an online space that relies on advertising to survive. It's the real world, baby! If you have more questions about advertising options, send me a DM or go to the ADVERTISE section of Podcast Review (it's at the bottom, hiding...). All of our data on page impressions can be found there and the prices are tiered depending on the amount of traffic we generate. You can see an example of a Sponsor feature below. --- Have you ever advertised your podcast in a newsletter or on a website?

17 signs you're an audio person living in a video world: - You miss bedtime stories - You tune into strangers' conversations in public without getting annoyed or distracted. You even find them interesting - You actually enjoyed lectures at university - You get impatient watching TV and start talking over the top - You can't follow video instructions - You put on the TV while folding laundry or cooking... but never look at the screen - You send and receive 20+ minute voice notes with your friends - You find AI voices unnerving, soulless and boring - You can't listen to anything at more than 1.2x speed. It's just not the same - Your parents were NPR/BBC fans and you still remember their favourite shows - You talk to yourself while getting ready in the morning - You can remember the theme songs and catchphrases of kids' TV shows but nothing about what they looked like - You love telling stories at dinner parties - You like working in public because of the ambient noise - You say "Can you just explain it to me on a call instead?" - You watch TikToks with the sound on - Your favourite YouTubers make video essays you play in the background Audio listeners are born. But they can also be cultivated. Why aren't podcasting/radio investing money into cultivating the next generation of audio fans? Don't accept crumbs from video platforms. We have an audience. They might not know it yet. --- How did you know that you were an audio person? How do you know that you're not one? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Poet & Coach for Creative Professionals

For the third year running, my show A Mouthful of Air poetry podcast has been listed as one of the best podcasts for poetry lovers, by Podcast Review. I set out to make the best and most welcoming show about poetry I could. So it's great to see it up there with podcasts I consider the benchmark, including shows from the The New Yorker, London Review of Books, Poetry Foundation and Shakespeare and Company, Paris. If you're a poetry lover or curious about what it might add to your life, have a listen to A Mouthful of Air poetry podcast and let me know what you think! Thank you to Alice Florence Orr for the thoughtful (and informed) review, to all our guest poets and their publishers, to our listeners, and to Mami McGuinness マクギネス真美 for help behind the scenes. #poetry https://lnkd.in/ezd4fKNk

The podcast industry is capitulating to video platforms that invest in building and shaping their audiences. Audio listeners are not born - they are made. What are we doing to cultivate listeners? Nothing. When YouTube and TikTok monopolise attention, we shrug and say "Well, we might as well make video podcasts, nothing we can do." Reps from YouTube will tell you that your next listener is to be found on their platform, but I haven't seen one single iota of data that suggests a video subscriber turns into a podcast subscriber. And don't try to convince me we should be satisfied with the crumbs. It's time we invested in turning the next generation into audio fans, rather than paying for a slice of video's audience.

"Podcasting is an audio medium!" That's a response I got to our latest newsletter about video podcasting. I hear you but here's why that argument's futile and hurts your show. I fell in love with podcasting as audio-first, too. But we don't own it. YouTube is increasingly the place people go to find and consume their favourite podcasts. So do we ignore them, and fall behind? The change is happening whether we like it or not. Video isn't all the audience by any means. And there will always be audio-only listeners. But if our goal is to meet our audience where they are and reach as many of them as we can, we can't ignore video. Neil Young refuses to put his music on Spotify. Whether you think that's cool or not, he's definitely missing out on a ton of his listeners and revenue! So we have a choice: We can hold on to what we believe podcasting 𝑠ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑 be. Or we can accept what audiences want podcasting to be and be that for them.

Want to feel old? The early 2000s are now as far away as the 1980s were at the turn of the century. When Francis Fukuyama told us that we’d reached the end of history, he hadn’t taken into account that youngsters would start calling Blink 182 “dad rock.” But here we are. If you’re feeling nostalgic, we’ve rounded up a collection of the best music history podcasts that will indulge your sentimentality. These shows cover most mainstream genres, like rock and pop music, and range in format from wide surveys to focused studies of an artist’s oeuvre. Music podcasts continue to push the boundaries of the medium. We can’t help but relate to music on a deeper level, even when attempting to take a documentary approach. But rather than cloud the podcast genre with rambling episodes and directionless formats, people’s passion for music history has led to many ambitious and memorable projects. Here are some of our favorites. Any that we missed? Read the full article on our website.

NEW ARTICLE: 7 Podcasts I Wish Would Come Back "Hearing the news that Longform will be saying goodbye to listeners after twelve years, I reluctantly consigned the show to a mental list that I have been writing since the pandemic. It’s a roster of shows that “I couldn’t live without,” until suddenly I was forced to." - Alice Florence Orr https://lnkd.in/gzbfV5dz
