Mental Health Care
The maternal mental health program of Mental Health America of Ohio
About us
Mental Health America of Ohio (MHAOhio) conducts the POEM (Perinatal Outreach & Encouragement for Moms) program, which closes gaps in care for pregnant and parenting people with maternal mental health complications. Through care navigation layered with certified peer support, POEM serves as a single-entry point of care, providing mental and emotional care through the perinatal period. POEM provides mom-to-mom mentoring, support groups, talk/text support line, access to specialized maternal mental health clinicians (including free counseling for uninsured or underinsured), and collaboration with MHAOhio’s Get Connected program to aid in housing, legal, and case management needs. POEM’s Rise branch provides all program services exclusively by and for Black and African American mothers and parenting individuals.

Are you at the intersection of where neurodiversity, Black perinatal mental health, and parenting meet? Are you learning how to unmask your or your child’s neurodivergence and need a safe space to find answers for your journey? The word neurodiversity refers to the diversity of all people, but it is often used in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other neurological or developmental conditions such as ADHD or learning disabilities (National Institutes of Health, 2024). One intersection less discussed is the one between neurodiversity, Black birthing and parenting experiences, and our mental health. Join POEM Rise for a virtual panel discussion exploring coping strategies, support resources, and our mental health needs as Black neurodiverse moms and birthing persons and parents of Black neurodiverse children. Attendance incentive available on a first come first served basis. #autism #adhd #blackmoms #mentalhealth Register: https://loom.ly/ZKoZS-Y
