As the new academic year begins, let's not forget that the College of Policing has published its 2024 Competency and Values Framework (#CVF), providing clear expectations for everyone working in #policing. It describes the behaviours required of a police officer or member of staff, to be effective in their role and uphold the #CodeOfEthics. It plays a significant role in the recruitment, assessment, and development of officers and staff at every level. ❔ Why was it developed❔ Because #research and reviews of policing over the last decade have consistently highlighted the importance of #Ethical and #ValuesDriven behaviour in police officers and staff. In the Police Education Consortium, we work with highly experienced lecturers, experts, researchers, and other staff to deliver quality police education and follow the latest updates in policing in the UK and worldwide. Amongst our staff, there are experts in data analysis, inclusivity, and police leadership. As a recognition of our work, this year we #won The Apprenticeship Guide Award for Best Apprenticeship in Public Services. ✨ Our distinguishing features are: • #Policing Expertise: Developing reflective police practitioners equipped to meet the complex needs of the communities they serve. • #Innovative Attitude: Growing a research culture to support evidence-based policing and police education. • #Commitments to Values: Our programs are not only cutting-edge but also rooted in inclusivity and ethical conduct, consistently striving to embed professional integrity within policing practices. We welcome the CVF’s value-driven approach. It is based on three values: #Courage, #PublicService, and #Respect and #Empathy; and six competencies. Closely aligned to the Code of Ethics, the framework equips everyone in policing with the skills for leadership, critical thinking, and collaborative work, thereby enhancing the service provided to the public. Each competency and value includes a list of example behaviours. 🛤️ Leading the Way in Police Education and Research 📚 How does the Police Education Consortium lead the way in police education and research, forging strong partnerships and driving improvements in contemporary policing practice? Through extensive experience in delivering police education programmes in all of our member universities, we have a track record of working in partnership with various national and international police forces 🌍. This work is underpinned by sector-leading, specialist, evidence-based research. Every student officer completes an evidence-based #research project 📑👮 at the concluding stage of their programme demonstrating professional competence and addressing the real-world #challenges of contemporary policing. These projects provide valuable insights and resources for police forces, helping to address national, regional, and local priorities. Some of our recent research initiatives include examining topics such as: * How can #mentalhealth and #resilience training in England and Wales be improved to help police officers manage their mental health? 📱 *To what extent have past abuse of power affected the trust that women and girls have in the police and what effect does this have on violence against women and girls (#VAWG)? 🏡 Since our founding in 2017, the Police Education Consortium has been dedicated to championing the national implementation of the Police Education Qualifications Framework (PEQF). We continue to enhance our programmes and expand our reach, thanks to the invaluable support of our partners, including Surrey Police, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, and Sussex Police. 🌟 Ground-breaking Achievements in Police Education! 🌟 We are excited to share that the Police Education Consortium has been recognised as "ground-breaking" in the University Alliance (UK)’s latest report, "Let’s Get Technical: The First 100 Days". In this new publication📖, the University Alliance has set out a range of impactful priority actions for the government to take in their first 100 days in power. The Consortium’s recognition highlights our dedication to positively reforming #PoliceEducation and training: “The well-established Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (#PCDA) is utilised by twenty-one police forces👮♂️ in England and Wales and is mostly delivered by universities, including seven University Alliance members and the ground-breaking Police Education Consortium.” However, recent #policy shifts have impacted the PCDA. They urge the government to reconsider the decision to end the compulsory roll-out of police degrees to ensure that officers are on par with other high-skilled professions. They also propose to #increase student maintenance #support to keep up with the cost of living, and reintroducing maintenance grants for those most in need, to ensure everyone who wants to can take up the opportunity of going to university. 💼 The Police Education Consortium was founded in 2017 to champion the national implementation of the Police Education Qualifications Framework (PEQF). Ever since, we have been delivering #highquality police education working with amazing professionals, in collaboration with police service partners Surrey Police, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, and Sussex Police. Policing is just one area where technical and professional universities are making a difference through research and innovation. Our #awardwinning Consortium is proud to lead these efforts and looks forward to advancing police education. We won🏆 the prestigious title of Best Apprenticeship in Public Services at The Apprenticeship Guide Awards, which recognises outstanding apprenticeship programmes within the Police, Armed Forces, Fire Services or Civil Services. 👉 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eabBavD5 Thank you for following us on LinkedIn! 🙌 The Police Education Consortium team #PoliceEducation #Policing #Police #Innovation #HigherEducation #PCDA #UniversityAlliance #FutureOfPolicing
