#apprenticeship provides the structured #onthejobtraining many people need to develop the skills needed for a successful career. We live in a time where we have nearly instant gratification, but this doesn't work when choosing a #careerpath. A registered apprenticeship allows un-skilled or under-skilled people to truly learn an occupation. #apprenticeshipworks #skillsdevelopment #talentdevelopment #talentpipeline
Check out how apprenticeship can help reduce recidivism among young people: https://lnkd.in/eyxVutA5 In this insightful blog, my colleagues Shruti Nayak and Leslee Haisma at Urban Institute explore how apprenticeship effectively addresses many of the barriers faced by young people who have been incarcerated. We need to build connections like these, between apprenticeship and populations that are so often sidelined from economic opportunity, in order for apprenticeship to maximize its impact and build equity into our labor market.

New York State Organizer / Business Development / Workforce Development at NEW YORK STATE LABORERS ORGANIZING FUND: Compliance Analyst
Attention all job seekers and community leaders! #Re-entry is a topic that needs to be broadcast loud and clear across the country. As someone who was considering reposting, I couldn't help but stop and leave a comment on this important issue. I am proud to share that #LiUNA Buffalo, NY Laborers Local 210 is leading the way in preparing for the significant demand for Construction Craft Laborers in Western NY. Through partnerships with CEO Inc. and Buffalo Construction Trade Council, they have created a pathway for re-entry individuals to learn a valuable trade while earning a living wage with benefits. This not only creates jobs without subsidies, but also fills a crucial gap in the labor market. We often hear about labor shortages, but it's time for people and organizations to open their eyes and look to their own communities for solutions. I have personally witnessed over 30 individuals become part of the Building Construction Trades Council and #LiUNA Local 210, all of whom returned home to a brighter future. Let's support initiatives like this and empower those looking for a second chance to build a successful career. Together, we can make a positive impact on our communities and the workforce. #Re-entryLaborPool #LiUNA210 #BuffaloConstructionTradesCouncil #jobopportunities #communityimpact

Happy Youth Apprenticeship week! I wanted to start out the week by highlighting a wonderful brief by the Urban Institute showcasing that apprenticeship can be a successful model of reducing recidivism. "The benefits of apprenticeship extend beyond youth. By interrupting the flow of young people into detention centers, apprenticeship can provide relief to the overutilized facilities and invest in the economy by reinvesting the $214,620 it costs annually to detain one young person into workforce initiatives." https://lnkd.in/gRmJUXwX

A really important story here of how training providers can get caught out through no direct fault of their own - impacting PPED, QAR etc. Firstly an example of where an employer arbitrarily mandates all staff to undertake an apprenticeship. Starts appear attractive, but are the apprentices motivated, will they engage and/or are they bothered in completing? Not all starts are good starts for a provider. Secondly, out of the 689 apprenticeship standards approved for delivery do they all really in reality fit with the requirements of an apprenticeship? Take the prison service - in a sector that is incredibly stretched, is it likely that a custody and detention officer will be released by their employer for their OTJT entitlement? Just because it's an approved standard it doesn't mean it's a good thing. Not all job roles and training need to be or should be an apprenticeship either. Buyer beware. https://lnkd.in/eRPR8MtV
