    About 3 weeks ago, I wrote about dogfooding your product and "catfooding" (as a friend of mine calls it), and I am so excited that I'm actually getting to dogfood the product at Popl. Serendipitously, I was looking for a product to be able to aggregate all the folks that I've been meeting with, networking with, and hosting with, and I had initially been settling for a simple Google Sheets or Airtable (manually inputting information in🤮). But after giving Popl a whirl these last few events, it's been incredibly seamless for sharing as well as collecting information. Yesterday I just got access to our Teams product, so I'm pumped to start using our more powerful features to do follow ups, and when I go to events these coming weeks I'm excited to use the scan feature to collect info for business cards and badges! #networking #community #product #data

    Recently, I learned the importance of dogfooding, not just with our own products but also our clients'. As data professionals, it's easy to get lost in outcomes and decision-making, sometimes distancing ourselves from the products we help grow. I recently tried a product from one of our e-commerce clients, promoting myself to the role of a customer. Experiencing the product firsthand allowed me to empathize with users and uncover areas of confusion, particularly within the promotion flows. I noticed friction points that might hinder customer experience, such as unclear discount applications or cumbersome checkout processes. This experience reminded me of the value of stepping into our customers' shoes. By understanding their journey, we can make more informed recommendations and improvements. I encourage my fellow professionals to try their clients' products and see them from a customer's perspective—it's an eye-opening experience that can lead to valuable insights. Reflecting on this, I feel more connected to the products I work on (I'm a fan now of the products I ordered) and more motivated to contribute positively to their growth. It's a simple yet powerful exercise in empathy and understanding!
