PNWA 2024 Mission to DC … if you are not here, you should be.

We're making $90 million in grant funding available to support workforce training to prepare migrant/seasonal farmworkers and their dependents to obtain, retain and advance in agricultural jobs or start new careers. Our Employment and Training Administration will award approximately 50-75 National Farmworker Jobs Program grants to organizations that will provide career services, including career assessment and planning; supportive services; and work-based learning, which may include pre-apprenticeships or Registered Apprenticeships in the agriculture industry or other sectors. Successful applicants will deliver worker-centered, sector-based training that responds to workers’ needs while incorporating strong partnerships with employers. Authorized by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, the NFJP Career Services and Training funding will increase the capacity for migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their dependents to acquire the skills they need to stabilize or advance in agriculture jobs, or to obtain jobs in new industries. We'll announce a separate funding opportunity for housing grants. We encourage new applicants with experience delivering employment and training services – yet with little or no experience with a National Farmworker Jobs Program grant – to propose innovative program models. Lighted Boat Parade this Weekend! (approx 7:30 pm in Howard Amon Park) What a spectacular sight it is to watch the lighted boats pass by! Boaters: Get the details at a mandatory meeting on Wednesday p.m., see www.lightedboatparade.com. The parade starts each night at 6 p.m. under the Cable Bridge at Clover Island in Kennewick. They cruise upriver along Columbia Park, turn around at about 7:30 p.m. in Howard Amon Park, and travel back downriver on the Pasco side between Chiawana Park and Road 78. Dams along the Columbia and Snake rivers keep our roads clear and emissions low.   Breaching these dams would eliminate barging and force more trucks onto our roads, crowding an already congested transportation system. These added trucks would generate 1.2 million more tons of CO2 and other harmful emissions—equivalent to 181,000 passenger cars or adding one new coal-fired power plant every 2-3 years.   Low-emission, efficient transportation is our River Value.
