If Labor Day weekend means a flight through Huntsville International Airport, flyers are being advised to arrive earlier than they might have otherwise planned. HSV is expecting its four major airlines to offer almost 20,000 seats on 266 flights over the holiday weekend, Aug. 30 to Sept. 2. The Food Bank of North Alabama celebrated officially unveiling its new distribution center and headquarters. “We have seen almost double the people in need in our community, the number of people who are asking for food assistance,” CEO of the Food Bank of North Alabama Schofield adds that they are on track to deliver over 14 million pounds of food by the end of this year, which is over 2 million pounds more than last year. The new distribution center provides the space and capacity they need to serve the community in such high quantities. With the increase in space, the food bank needs the community now more than ever to keep the shelves stocked. GE Aerospace has plans to invest $650 million in its manufacturing facilities and supply chain this year. This move aims to ramp up production and enhance quality to better serve its commercial and defense customers. Of the $650 million investment, the Huntsville location is set to receive a significant boost. The U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center Huntsville , recently awarded $2.3 billion in contracts that will provide upgrades and maintenance to military medical facilities around the world. The work ranges from medical equipment maintenance and facility repair to HVAC improvements and asbestos abatement, according to the Huntsville center.
