We’re excited to announce today that the Bell Street Cruise Terminal at Pier 66 is now shore power enabled! 🔌 The technology allows cruise ships to plug into the Seattle City Light grid and turn off their fuel-based engines, resulting in a significant reduction in air emissions. Seattle is one of the first cruise ports to offer shore power for simultaneous use at all its multiple berths. Read more → https://lnkd.in/gfUSmMDs

We're excited to share that the Ground Support Equipment (GSE) program (a partnership among South Seattle College, Port Jobs, and the Port of Seattle) has officially received certification from the Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges. We have been building GSE for the past few years, and it will now be offered at South Seattle College, creating a pathway for entry-level airport workers to advance their careers as GSE mechanics!

On Oct. 2, we launched the seventh new international service to begin in 2024 at SEA Airport with the inaugural Philippine Airlines flight from SEA to Manila. To celebrate, SEA and PAL hosted a turret salute and gate ceremony upon the first flight’s arrival. Festivities also included a traditional Filipino dance by the University of Washington’s Filipino American Student Association group, Sayaw, special Filipino treats by Neighborhood Café’s SEA D Concourse location, a ribbon cutting ceremony, and a gift exchange.

During runway construction at SEA Airport in 1961, Gordon Simmons of Sellen Construction Company discovered the skeleton of a giant sloth while excavating a 14-foot-deep hole. Paleontologists from the Burke Museum came to investigate and found about 60 percent of the body of a giant sloth. The extinct animal, weighing 2,000 pounds lived around 12,600 years ago. You can now find the well-preserved sloth skeleton on display at the Burke Museum with the missing bones constructed from plaster, or a life-size replica at the Highline Heritage Museum. Join us and Gordon Simmons daughter on Oct. 20, International Sloth Day, for the premier of Elevated: 75 Years of Service at SEA | Episode 6: Gordy the Sea-Tac Sloth.

🌟 Last week, CLIA celebrated the wrap-up of Seattle's 25th homeport season of Alaska cruises during a special event hosted on board Norwegian Cruise Line Norwegian Jewel. 💎 This annual event honors the significant contributions to the successful cruise season by local port officials, business, tourism and hospitality leaders, labor partners, suppliers, U.S. Coast Guard, and Customs & Border Protection. ⛰️ During this Alaska cruise season, the cruise industry brought more than 1.7 million passengers and over $900 million in economic impact to Seattle and its surrounding communities. ⚡ Norwegian Jewel was plugged into the new shore power connection at Pier 66 during the celebration — Port of Seattle is one of the world's few ports to offer onshore power at all cruise berths, further supporting the cruise industry's progress reducing air emissions while at berth. ❤️ Special thanks to Norwegian Cruise Line and the Port of Seattle for co-hosting this celebration. 🛳#WeARECruise
