One of our amazing gift shop and sewing volunteers, Rosela Ortega, crocheted these festive blankets for the Santa Fe Medical Center babies who were born on the Fourth of July. Thank you, Rosela! Sewing volunteers help hospitals by creating essential items like blankets and pillows which support both patients and staff. They also craft comfort items such as toys, hats, and fidget items, providing emotional comfort and a sense of care to patients and their families. Interested in sharing your talents? Our Health Plan Place’s social club loves exploring all that the community has to offer. July’s field trip to an Isotopes' game was a hit -- everyone enjoyed busing over to the baseball park together, enjoying ballpark food and building friendships! phs.org/healthplanplace

It was a joy to have magician and illusionist Justin Morris visit Presbyterian Hospital this week and perform for our patients and families! We were all amazed by his incredible tricks and magic, and even though some of us are still perplexed and wondering how he did them, a magician never reveals his secrets.😊

When Presbyterian employees earn the letter from a patient or member, it's worth celebrating — and is a reminder that the work we do makes a difference in supporting the health journeys of the people we serve. Doyle Boykin, vice president of Home Health Hospice and Palliative Services, recently received a note highlighting the care of Presbyterian's hospice team: “Just wanted to say thank you to you and your team. [My partner's] dad has been on hospice for several months. His Hospice at Home team was wonderful and so supportive. He passed this afternoon peacefully and surrounded by all his family. The in-patient team had him for two days last week and were incredible. Special thanks to Therese Jordan, who was a godsend, and Jessica Sanchez, who has been so supportive, kind and caring for the past 48 hours. My family is so grateful to all of them for the wonderful care he received."

On June 14, Dr. Trista Hughes, a doctor of family medicine and obstetrics at Socorro General Hospital (SGH), received an inaugural Healthcare Champion Award from the New Mexico Early Childhood Care and Education Department. Dr. Hughes was one of four healthcare providers recognized for going above and beyond to connect patients with the department's Home Visiting and Family Infant Toddler (FIT) programs. She says, “Home visiting programs have the unique ability to support patients in an individualized way. These programs contribute to reduced levels of postpartum depression and anxiety, child abuse and domestic violence, and increased parental engagement and childhood literacy." Dr. Hughes is also a tireless advocate for rural health and support of families who are dealing with substance use disorder. She grew up in a rural community, where she witnessed the impact of rural healthcare firsthand. She says, “I've known that I wanted to practice rural medicine as long as I've known that I wanted to be a physician. It is so meaningful and rewarding to care for patients in this setting." Congratulations to Dr. Hughes, and a big thank you for your dedication to our community.
