About us
Project HOOD is a 501 c(3) organization established in 2012. Our mission is to empower people with the guidance, information and tools necessary to become peacemakers, problem solvers, leaders, and entrepreneurs in their communities. After sleeping on the roof of an abandoned motel for 94 days to bring attention to gun violence on the south side of Chicago, the "Rooftop Pastor" Corey Brooks started Project H.O.O.D. with the vision of "ending violence and building communities, one neighborhood at a time." Project H.O.O.D.’s programming is designed to equip youth, adults, and families with the resources, skills, tools and experiences that are needed to be successful, healthy, and upwardly mobile members of society. We seek to empower, not enable. We seek to equip, not excuse. We seek to inform, not ignore. Project H.O.O.D.’s goal is to be at the forefront of innovation and transformation on the South Side of Chicago and specifically within the Englewood and Woodlawn communities.

Congratulations to Pastor Corey Brooks, Dez Marshall, Brian Lamar Alexander, J.D. and the entire Project H.O.O.D. (Helping Others Obtain Destiny) team on a wonderful fundraising gala!! It was a great night, spent with great people, for an even greater cause!! As Dez Marshall said, “O-Block now stands for #opportunity block” and seeing the Robert R. McCormick Leadership and Economic Opportunity Center being erected in the heart of the Woodlawn community, on 66th and King Drive, still gives me goosebumps!! Chase was proud to be one of the many sponsors on the evening, but equally grateful to be a partner in uplifting our Woodlawn and surrounding communities! Our team came ready to celebrate all night!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾 Thank you again to the Project H.O.O.D. team for the incredible work you’re doing on the south side of Chicago, and to everyone who came out to support such a worthy cause! The testimonies from the kids left me in tears, and asking how I could do more?! Grateful to have attended Project H.O.O.D.'s annual Gala this past Saturday, alongside my husband Christopher Verdugo and his colleagues from Burke, Warren, MacKay & Serritella. The event was both inspiring and deeply personal, as their commitment to creating a more unified, safer, and well-resourced Woodlawn truly resonated with me. Having once called Woodlawn home, I’m moved not only by their powerful vision but by the meaningful actions Project H.O.O.D. has already taken to drive positive change in the community. I’m excited to see the continued progress and can’t wait to witness what’s next for this incredible organization!
