Together We Can Do More
About us
Life Science Cares is a collective effort of the life science industry to help address the impact of poverty on our neighbors in the greater Philadelphia, Boston, and San Diego areas. Through uniting the human and financial resources of life science companies and industry leaders, we support non-profit organizations that do the best work in fighting poverty and providing educational opportunity in our community. We work with organizations doing work in the areas of basic human survival (hunger, homelessness, domestic abuse, crime prevention, etc.), education (STEM education, college preparation and college success, educational enrichment and inspiration, etc.) and sustainability (job creation, job training, mentoring, and economic development.)

Thank you so much Fate for participating in Project Onramp and being a host this year! We are excited to continue our partnership and place several interns at Fate Therapeutics for 2025!
Fate Therapeutics had the pleasure of hosting a fantastic group of high school and college students for our Summer Internship Program! 🔬 These bright minds partnered with teams like Bioinformatics, Research, and Quality Systems. They gained hands-on experience, collaborated with industry professionals, and received valuable mentorship that will help shape their future careers. 🌟 A special thank you to Project Onramp for introducing us to one of our talented interns and for the incredible work they do to match undergraduates from low-income backgrounds with internships in the life sciences. 👏 Thank you to all our interns for your hard work and dedication this summer. The future of STEM is brighter with you in it! #STEMInternship #FutureInnovators #SummerInternship2024

We're so grateful to Belharra Therapeutics for their kindness and generosity! They recently donated backpacks filled with learning essentials for two classrooms part of the Horizons Program. The Horizons Program is an incredible organization that is taking strides to advance educational equality for students by building community partnership, providing access to STEAM courses, and filling food insecurity gaps. Your support is invaluable to the students who come prepared to learn each day! We appreciate your partnership and commitment to the community!

"Here at Monarch, [dignity] is the primary area of work. It's the focus. It's the thing we all have to do in order to be good at our jobs, which is to recognize the basic common humanity that we have and to honor the dignity of our families, our caregivers, and our students." In this month’s episode of Life Science Cares, Inc. #MovingForwardGivingBack podcast, Monarch School President and CEO Afira Arrastia-DeVries chats with our Life Science Cares San Diego Executive Director Alicia Quinn Kitagawa to discuss Monarch’s unique community school model and the importance of dignity, respect, and asset-based approaches when working with vulnerable populations. Tune in at https://bit.ly/3UXzCtS or streaming on Apple, Spotify, iHeart Radio and Amazon!
Unhoused youth graduate at a significantly lower rate than students with stable housing as the barriers to education are often insurmountable. The Monarch School has been on a mission to remove these obstacles and provide a sense of belonging for thousands of unhoused youth and their families in San Diego since 1987. In this month’s episode of our podcast #MovingForwardGivingBack, Monarch’s President and CEO, Afira Arrastia-DeVries DeVries, sits down with Life Science Cares San Diego Executive Director Alicia Quinn Kitagawa to discuss Monarch’s unique community school model, which provides a range of vital services beyond just academics - from mental health support to basic needs assistance. This can’t-miss discussion also touches on the importance of dignity, respect and asset-based approaches when working with vulnerable populations, as well as Monarch’s new training program that aims to equip educators across California with the trauma-informed and restorative practices.
