Join Ocean Wise at our upcoming workshop at the 25th Biennial conference on Biology of Marine Mammals, Society for Marine Mammalogy, virtually or in-person in Perth on November 10th. Representatives from Ocean Wise, University of Washington, Glacier Bay National Park and Reserve, Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies Program, ORCA (Organisation Cetacea), and Okeanos - Institute of Marine Sciences will be leading the workshop: Preventing Ocean Roadkill: Global Technologies for Reducing Ship Strikes and Vessel Disturbance for Vulnerable Cetacean Populations. Ship strikes pose a significant threat to cetaceans worldwide. Over the past two decades, shipping traffic has surged by 300%, with a continued annual increase of 2-3%. Many of the busiest shipping routes intersect with crucial cetacean habitats. This workshop will feature presentations by invited experts showcasing global efforts to reduce ship strike risk and breakout discussions to collaboratively devise strategies to address vessel strike ‘hot spots.’ Register to attend this workshop in-person to help us solve this pressing threat: https://lnkd.in/ghbZYt2a To register virtually, please email Jessica.scott@ocean.org. #OceanWise #MarineMammals #ShipStrikes #MarineConservation #WhaleReportAlertSystem #WRAS #WhaleConservation #Perth #SMM2024
