accelerating better futures in multiplayer mode 💜

About us

RADAR is a global community of people thinking about and building better futures. Together, we’ve dreamt up and collaboratively published three crowdfunded reports into the future of culture, run public hackathon and education events for hundreds of people online, built an ideas platform which was recently awarded a grant of over $150k, and shared in the rewards — all in service of accelerating better futures, together. And we’re just getting started. For too long, the future has seemed to belong to the few and the powerful. But we choose to believe there’s a different truth — simple and radical — hidden in plain sight: The future belongs to those who think about it. And in our view, that should include more, and we mean way more of the population than it does today. In fact, we believe it so much, we co-wrote a whole book about it (see: The Curious Human's Field Guide to the Future).

RADAR isn’t just about imagining better futures — it’s about building them, even when the world feels its darkest. In moments like these, gathering to dream, create, and transform together is as healing as it is essential. That’s why we’ve decided to make next week’s virtual LoveFest (on November 14) free to attend, opening our doors as wide as possible as a gesture of hope and abundance. All unrefunded ticket sales and donations will go directly into our micro.grant pool to fund projects that activate A Future in Love around the world. Join us to imagine, build, and act. Because the future belongs to those who think about it — and critically, to those who refuse to give up on it. Read more about this decision in our visual carousel, which contains the full letter from our team and community, and if you feel called to join us, please still grab a ticket via the link in our comments/bio. #ImagineBetterFutures #BuildBetterFutures #VirtualFestival #WeNeedLove #LoveFest

What if we designed our world with empathy as our north star? What if every innovation, every creation, every digital space was measured not by metrics of efficiency or growth, but by its capacity to nurture care and connection? From painting to music, poetry to digital spaces, technology to community, there are no boundaries for where love can lead the way. In Love Unbound, our speed-dating session with big ideas, we’ve gathered six brilliant minds for five rapid-fire explorations of love's transformative potential. Watch the magic happen as these diverse perspectives collide in a lively cross-pollination of ideas. Here’s a little presentation of our speakers (but tbh these few lines don’t really do them justice): Kenneth Chu is the founder of Switch-Lit, an arthouse Internet platform-publisher of collaborative prose and poetry for the collective imagination. He is also the co-founder and creative director of Studio Esmé, an independent agency that produces original films, multimedia storytelling, and content strategy inspired by the emotional perspective of kids, teens, and families in the coming of age and across societal change. Sundus Abdul Hadi is an artist and writer of Iraqi origin. She was raised and educated in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal, where she earned a BFA in Studio Arts and Art History and a MA in Media Studies. Articulated through her artistic practice, writing and curation, Sundus’ work is a sensitive reflection on trauma, struggle, and care. Melanie Kahl is an innovation leader, strategist, and experience designer who crafts programs, services, and gatherings for human flourishing. Her practice is focused on bringing relationship, joy, care, and wholeness to organizational & systems change — and she's intent on bringing a more creative approach to kinship into the world, because we all need more aunties, uncs, and godfolk in our village. Rachel Chak is a Filipino-Chinese designer, researcher, and DJ based in London. With a background in Health Sciences, her practice explores technology as a generative tool for shared well-being, examining how nature and indigenous values of care can inform our relationship with digital spaces. Ever wondered about topics like co-creating infrastructures of care in web3? Digital mindfulness? The poetic web? Rachel's your girl. Paqui Lizana⚡ MBA, MTH and Jenny Nicholson. Two moms, endless questions, and a passion for exploring the intersection of technology and humanity. Their joint AI studio focuses on research and experimentation to explore the evolving relationship between humans and machines, challenging algorithmic norms and envisioning AI's future impact on lives, minds, and ecosystems. And their latest experiment? Designing AI systems and brains to empower self-love, empathy and connection to the world. They call it Lovotics. So mark the date, and don’t forget to share the love and tell a friend, because the more, the merrier. We’ll see you on November 14th.

Love isn't just something we feel—it's something we do. That's why our second panel at LoveFest dives into the heart of the matter: how do we actually practice love as a force for change in our daily lives? We've gathered some extraordinary minds who are already showing us how: Meet Tamela Julia Gordon, author and community organizer. Her 2024 critically acclaimed book, Hood Wellness: Tales of Communal Care from People Who Drowned on Dry Land centers her work in community care, personal development, and writing. Enter Lakshmi Rengarajan, a dedicated advocate for enhancing connection and dating culture. Through "The Later Dater" podcast and her coaching work, she's proving it's never too late to reimagine relationships. Add Christie Tate, whose New York Times bestseller "Group" (a Reese's Book Club pick translated into 19 languages) and latest memoir "B.F.F." dive deep into the messy, beautiful work of connection—through therapy, friendship, and everything in between. Through WriteTogether, she's creating spaces for writers to explore the relationships that shape us. Rounding out our panel are visionaries Tonya-Noel Stevens and Kristen Walker, whose Flower City Noire Collective (FCNC) shows us what love looks like as daily, revolutionary practice. Through "space-making" rooted in Black feminist politics, they're creating the world they want to see—one where Black joy, collective care, and radical imagination shape everything from urban gardens to youth mentorship to cooperative living. Their work embodies what becomes possible when we practice love as transformative action. This isn't just a panel—it's a chance to explore how love shows up in real life, in real communities, through real practice. And yes, you'll get to ask your burning questions directly to these remarkable humans. (And not to jinx anything, but we couldn't help but notice that the future—or at least this conversation about it—is looking gloriously feminine.) Want to be part of this conversation? Ticket link in comments, or check our last post for a chance to win your way in!

What if countries measured the c̳a̳r̳e̳ rather than the v̳a̳l̳u̳e̳ of goods produced? Imagine... In this future, we prioritize ‘gross domestic care’ over GDP. In this world, we recognize that a society's success heavily depends on the presence of "invisible care"—a recognition now reflected in all our decisions, from business practices to labor valuation to career aspirations. Care values sit atop society's pyramid, reshaping governance, legislation, and prosperity metrics. Salaries are recalibrated based on the public goods they provide. Goods are designed to last, and repair & maintenance services are highly valued. Economies run on "small favors," celebrating and rewarding the ways we help one another. Interdisciplinary studies explore the relationship between economics and community development. Sound ridiculous? Good. As Rob Hopkins told us at one of last year's RADAR events: "Please don't be pragmatic. Any solution that is put forward to the challenges we face that doesn't initially seem at least a bit ridiculous is nowhere near ambitious enough." It's advice that's echoed and echoed into our 2024, straight into A Future in Love. And it's just the kind of leap we hope you'll take with us on the 14th of November… bubbling with big ideas and bigger questions about how we might center love in our systems and stories. After all, what really 𝘪𝘴 an economy? #LoveFest2024 #RADARDAO #ImagineTheFuture #BuildTheFuture #SaveTheDate #VirtualEvent #FutureEconomies #NarrativeEconomies #BetterFutures #LovingFutures

We're launching our second round of 𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬! The call is open to anyone with an idea, a project, a desire, or even just an inkling to create something that weaves love into our collective futures. As we aim to with all of our cycles, it's important to us to find ways to bring A Future in Love closer to reality, today — and this time, we've got a $10,000 microgrant pool to help make it happen. We'll be sharing a more detailed brief during LoveFest — along with some of the dreamiest ideas that arose from our community's research and collective imagination to spark your own. With workshops that will help jumpstart your thinking and the opportunity to connect with likeminds who just might share your vision, who knows where your idea might go? A few months ago, we launched our first experiment with micogrants and were blown away by both the results and the diversity of participants who emerged from within and outside of the community (9 year old futurists-in-the-making! Afropop smash HITS in-the-making! Rural dreamers! Panels that don't suck!).  Check out all the projects we supported in our first round (link in comments), and start manifesting yourself on the next iteration of the homepage. If you have a project or an idea you believe in, even if it's just the tiniest little seed, now is the time to nurture it — with a community of believers ready to help you tend to it and eager to see it blossom. Join us at LoveFest on the 14th of November to learn more! #Opportunity #MicroGrants #Grants #OpenCall #LoveFest2024 #BetterFutures #LovingFutures #ImagineTheFuture #BuildTheFuture

Here’s a little sneak peek into what will be at the heart of LoveFest's first panel. As we hinted in our last posts, we’re going to be talking about love in many different and diverse ways, trying to understand and explore how it influences and affects our systems and structures. This is what we’ll dive into in our panel: Love as Infrastructure: Because Systems Need Hearts Too. But first, we want to talk a bit more about a few of the amazing speakers that will be joining us. We'll have Jenny Grettve, author of The Mothering Economy, who actively tests projects on systemic transformation with a focus on economy, systems change and alternative futures. Over the years, Jenny has been involved in extensive urban renewal programs as well as actively writing about societal issues to better explore dialogues about unconventional ways of living. Alongside her, Amanda Janoo, an economic policy expert who works with governments around the world to build equitable and regenerative economies through participatory democratic processes. Now Economy & Policy lead at WEAll, Amanda has also worked for the United Nations, GIZ and the African Development Bank as an industrial policy and structural transformation expert. And last but certainly not least, Cezanne Charles, a creative practitioner, curator, and researcher with 20 years of experience working at the executive and senior management level within the creative industries (USA/UK). Her work focuses on the intersection of art, design, technology, culture, economy, social justice, and public policy. We're so excited about the minds we've been able to bring together for this conversation, and can’t wait to hear what happens when their perspectives collide!

What if our cities were designed to maximise love in all forms? Imagine... In this future, urban landscapes have been designed around care systems, not financial systems. Human centered engineering creates serendipitous moments of joy, love and empathy. In this future, communal dining takes place in public spaces, apps create opportunities to meet and share with your neighbours, even the picnic tables are designed for strangers to meet. These are just some of the thoughts and ideas that emerged from our collective world-building sessions at RADAR, but we want to keep thinking and imagining, to hear more voices and gather more perspectives on how more inclusive and care-oriented places and spaces might look and feel. We’re expecting you on the 14th of November… bubbling with ideas and questions about how we can weave love into the fabric of our cities (and then some). #LoveFest2024 #RADARDAO #ImagineTheFuture #BuildTheFuture #SaveTheDate #VirtualEvent #FutureofCities

Yes, you saw correctly. LoveFest is kicking it off strong, with the one and only Yazmany Arboleda setting the tone for our day. As an artist and activist, Yazmany activates communities with large-scale art projects that seek to build heartfelt connections that lead to meaningful relationships. From turning prison buses into celebrations of resilience to creating "explosions of love" in communities around the world, his two decades of making the impossible possible show us just how transformative collective acts of care can be. We could think of no better person to introduce what is at the heart of the topic of the day, warming us up for what will follow by sharing his thoughts about art, the heart, and radical possibilities. "𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘐'𝘮 𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺, 𝘰𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘐 𝘴𝘢𝘺, 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘸𝘦 𝘥𝘰 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘥𝘰 𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘦? 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘰𝘸, 𝘣𝘺 𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵, 𝘥𝘰 𝘸𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘳𝘦, 𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘸𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘹𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯?" Sounds a lot like how we think about RADAR, and what we're after with LoveFest. Let's do impossible things together, shall we? #LoveFest2024 #RADARDAO #ImagineTheFuture #BuildTheFuture #SaveTheDate #VirtualEvent
