🌱 In a recent conversation between leadership experts Aiko Bethea, Esq., PCC (she-her) and Elaine Lin Hering, Elaine shared personal reflections on the powerful influence of family and community on how we learn silence. Elaine, the youngest daughter of an immigrant family from Taiwan, was raised in the Christian church and spoke about how those environments shaped her behaviors. "Respecting my elders meant not asking questions, showing deference, and silencing my own needs," she said. 💡 For many immigrants, assimilation is key to survival—learning how to fit in, even when it means hiding parts of yourself. Elaine pointed out how these lessons, reinforced by church teachings like "turn the other cheek" and "be the bigger person," often lead to staying silent. The result? Silence becomes a survival mechanism that’s rewarded early in professional life. Asian Americans are often seen as excellent entry-level hires, but their advancement to leadership roles stalls because their needs and ambitions remain unspoken. 🎯 Elaine and Aiko discussed the internal conflict many face when told to "speak up," only to be met with resistance or ignored. This conversation highlights a deeper issue in leadership and workplace dynamics—unlearning the silence imposed by cultural and familial norms and finding the courage to speak out. ✨ It's a conversation that resonates not just with the Asian American experience but with anyone who has been conditioned to hold back their voice. #leadershipdevelopment #humanresources #management

🌱 Loneliness, Isolation, and Solitude: Understanding the Differences for Our Well-Being 🌱 Dr. Vivek Murthy describes loneliness as a distressing feeling of disconnection, likening it to hunger or thirst—it's a signal that something essential for our survival is missing. 🧠💬 While loneliness is a personal experience, isolation—whether social or physical—can contribute to it, but they aren’t the same thing. And then there’s solitude, which is often a choice and can bring mental health benefits and satisfaction. 🌿 The key is learning to recognize these feelings and understanding how to navigate them for our well-being. 💡 Want to learn more about Isolation and how to combat it? It's not too late to sign up for our workshop. Link in comments for more information! 🌱 Social media is just one slice of life. Each of us has a different relationship with it. But here's something important: 🎯 None of us know what someone else is carrying. The difference between silence that is strategic and silence that is oppressive is AGENCY. 💡 Do you choose silence, or does silence feel like the only option you have? 🎯 The same applies to voice-- your voice isn't just the words you speak in a meeting, it's how you move through the world. Being told how to show up strips away your agency and the ability to full express your gifts, skills, and talents. 💡 In a world full of calls to action, remember this: your agency matters. Silence can be violence when it's forced. Aiko Bethea, Esq., PCC (she-her) Elaine Lin Hering #leadership #teams #humanresources
