NEW RESEARCH: Rare's latest Climate Culture Index — an initiative that measures Americans’ mindsets about engaging in impactful climate actions — reveals a concerning downward trend in how confident people are in their ability to make those choices. For example, while Americans believe more drivers are getting EVs and more homeowners are installing solar, the share that has considered buying an EV or installing solar is falling. However, in our first-ever examination of support for critical policies related to each action, we see opportunity in that actual policy support is much more popular than Americans think it is. Understanding what motivates people to adopt a new behavior or technology and what barriers stand in the way is key to making climate policy work down to the household level. Last week, Rare Honduras hosted the official kick-off event of the 'Costas Próspera' project, which seeks to empower coastal fishing and farming communities to protect #biodiversity and build prosperity in Honduras. During the event, the team used the opportunity to have a dialogue on the Environmental and Social Safeguards of the project with government partners, civil society and representatives of local communities and Garifuna. The 'Costas Próspera' initiative is supported by the Blue Action Fund and implemented by Rare, Centro de Estudios Marinos and Fundación Ayuda en Acción. #ESMS #ESMP #ESG

Rare is now a Rivian Foundation grantee! With their support, we're building on our SHINE (Solar Helping Ignite Neighborhood Economies) initiative to enable traditionally marginalized communities to play a meaningful role in the clean-energy revolution. Our pilot program in Boston is helping hard-working people in underserved communities like Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan, and Hyde Park to pursue technical careers in #solar.   Check out our profile on Rivian Foundation’s new website! https://lnkd.in/e2WhM_uz

Thank you to Alina Tugend for featuring Rare in her article for The New York Times on individual #ClimateAction! "A 2019 report by Rare, a 50-year-old global nonprofit that uses behavioral insights to encourage action to protect the environment, examined seven personal choices and their impact on climate change: switching to an electric vehicle, reducing air travel, eating a plant-rich diet, offsetting carbon, reducing food waste, tending carbon-sequestering soil and purchasing green energy.   The report found that if one in 10 people in each category adopted a reduction behavior, total U.S. global greenhouse emissions would decrease by eight percent. That would shrink by 80 percent the projected gap between what the U.S. has promised in the Paris Agreement — the international treaty on climate that took effect in 2016 — and where it is now, the report stated." Today in New York I was very excited to participate in the event hosted by @rare_org and several of its partners, where the world’s first Small-Scale Fisheries (SSF) Impact Bond was launched. This initiative channels private and philanthropic capital toward revitalizing coastal communities and ecosystems. This Impact Bond is sized at US$6 million and will support the establishment of three Managed Access with Reserves (MA+R) areas in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. This pilot phase is crucial for validating the bond's model and impact, paving the way for future phases where the SSF Impact Bond will scale its impact by attracting additional private investment and securing government outcome funding. This is a vital pathway for countries to deliver on their goals for protecting 30 percent of land and sea by 2030 (30x30). Thanks to the at RARE and other amazing partners for making it possible! #climateweeknyc #climateweek2024 #UNGA2024
