Beyond proud of the team at REED Charitable Foundation - and not because of winning an award “Best Charitable Foundation of Winter Park” (although that is super fun!)- but because they are so dedicated and work so hard to take care of teachers and ensure every child learns the life-saving skills that only literacy gives. It is a Herculean task to undo decades of reading failure - but they show up every day with superhero capes, dedicated to make it happen. So, I am SO HAPPY for them to get this recognition and I am honored to be a part of it. And to my co-leader, Michelle Leeper, there is no better partner to tackle the literacy crisis with than you! Grateful for you. Congrats on this win❤️✨

The amazing ladies of the REED Charitable Foundation OG team brought their A-Game per usual - serving hundreds of kiddos and their families in District 5 today. These ladies dedicate their lives to make sure children (and skeletons!) can read and even give their weekends to serve. Always putting our community’s children FIRST. Also, their creativity is beyond - thank you Caitlin Laberee, Melissa Mallett-Edwards and Jamie Dozier. Love you ladies! Also, big thanks to Shannon Johannessen and @johanessenlights for helping with some fun lights as well. The best. #TrickorREED #UntilEveryTeacherIsTrained #UntilEveryChildCanRead

Cade’s story is Reed’s story and so many other children’s story too. When they are given the gift of science-based literacy instruction like OG. It shouldn’t have to be a courageous act to make high-quality professional development and coaching available to all teachers so all children learn the life-saving skills of literacy - but it is. Beyond what I could ever type in a Facebook post. So..I give great credit to Brandy Gentry, her colleagues, her administration and her school board for putting the best interests all the kids first. And sending so much love to Cade and his mom. This journey is hard for everyone but especially the kids. All I need to know about you and how successful you will be is knowing this story. There is nothing you can’t do kiddo. Finally, I am really proud that the heart and soul of our mission at RCF is a part of this story. #UntilEveryTeacherIsTrained #UntilEveryChildCanRead REED Charitable Foundation https://lnkd.in/eYttSKNj

LITERACY is the pathway FREEDOM + ILLITERACY is the pathway to PRISON (either physical or mental)💔 I barely listen to music anymore because I am so focused and passionate about the very solvable issue known as the literacy crisis. As so many have said, it is like knowing the cure for cancer and not making it available to all kids. I don’t understand why this is such a fight. Ameer Baraka really explains how struggling with reading and not knowing why makes a child feel. He explains how struggling with reading changes your values because of how you feel about yourself. He explains how those feelings can turn to frustration and anger. And what that looks like for a child. And a parent. He explains how a dyslexia diagnosis changed the long held beliefs he had about himself - and how it reconciled him to his mother. How it started resetting his values. He explains how learning how to read and believing in himself changed his life. It is quite a gift that he is sharing with all of us. As a successful adult, who only learned he was dyslexic when he was screened in prison!!!, he is able to pinpoint key moments that impacted him as a child and describe what it made him think about himself. He has great advice to all education decision-makers and we should be listening. It is so darn powerful. Worth the listen. #literacyisbiggerthanreading #UntilEveryTeacherIsTrained #UntilEveryChildCanRead REED Charitable Foundation Melissa & Lori Love Literacy™ https://lnkd.in/eZp_SpVc

SO EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THIS!! Evan Struck was one of the first young dyslexic kiddos we featured in our Inaugural Dyslexia Experience: The Artists! Because it was in 2020 and COVID was at its height, our event ended up being virtual and we never got to have him here. Well…now he is a full on entrepreneur and he will officially be here for REED Charitable Foundation’s 5th Annual Dyslexia Experience & Gala!! I say all of this to say … if you don’t have tickets to REED Charitable Foundation’s Dyslexia Experience or Gala - do not wait! Daymond John, an incredible group of young entrepreneurs like Evan, speed painting performances, swag bags, an exciting silent & live auction, a private concert with Dave’s Highway - FRIENDS - this is going to be an incredible day and night. Let’s face it…we could all use some fun and this is not only going to be fun but you are also going to help ensure every child becomes a confident reader who can chase their dreams, become our future leaders and make our world a better place. When we look at the state of things at the moment, I can’t think of anything more inspiring than investing in our children. Be a part of something meaningful. (Edited for updated form below) First, Florida Friends, I pray you are safe after yet another hurricane🙏❤️ Second, October is Dyslexia Awareness Month and I haven’t done a good job of advocating because I have been and continue to be absolutely buried - but I hope I am someone who celebrates Dyslexia Awareness all year long! During the month of October, REED Charitable Foundation is spotlighting YOUR stories about how dyslexia has touched your life— Today we are sharing Jackie Dillon and Joseph's story. "My son 9 year old son Joseph is my why. He was diagnosed with Dyslexia at the age of 7 (among several other neurodiversities). Even as a certificated public school ESE teacher in FL, at that time, I was completely unaware of dyslexia, the great literacy debate, and what exactly he needed to be successful. It took time, research, and finding the right person to help guide us through this journey. Dyslexia should not be a secret. I now advocate for Joseph, the countless children that slipped by me, and for the children that will need us in the future." We are still accepting YOUR whys submit using the link below! Share your "why" and your journey by filling out this brief form: https://lnkd.in/evsFDnSk
