Transit is the Answer.
About us
The Regional Transportation Authority (a.k.a. RTA) was created in 1974. In 1983, the amended Act created three "service boards" known as the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Metra commuter rail and Pace suburban bus. The RTA's primary responsibilities became financial and budget oversight of CTA, Metra and Pace, and regional transit planning issues. Guiding the RTA's oversight responsibility is a Board of Directors who approves an annual budget and two-year financial plan. The Board consists of 15 members and a chairman appointed from the six-county region. The RTA Board is also required annually to review and approve a five-year capital plan, which is a blueprint of the capital activities to be funded by the RTA and executed by the CTA, Metra, and Pace.

In celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, RTA staff took a field trip to learn more about the RTA’s ADA Paratransit Certification program. The certification program determines if a customer is eligible for origin-to-destination transportation services who, because of their disability, is unable to use a fixed route transit service for their trips. During the field trip, RTA staff got to hear a presentation from our certification partners at Transdev and view a mock assessment course as part of the certification process where participants walk up ramps and traverse over terrain. This internal presentation is a part of a larger series of ongoing discussions at the RTA for staff to ensure that we are creating a diverse and inclusive place to work and for initiatives outside the RTA that will continually help improve transit in our community. #urbanplanning #publictransit #transportation #accessibility #chicago

Chicago Transit Authority recently completed construction at their Forest Park Blue Line rail yard in Des Plaines. The RTA Project Management Oversight (PMO) and Capital Programming teams went in the field to see the new and improved rail tracks. This project was made possible thanks to funding from the Illinois Department of Transportation Rebuild Illinois State Bond Program and RTA Bonds. The improvement project included the reconstruction and reconfiguration of the inner and outer lead tracks, including associated special track work. The work in the east yard storage, including the road crossings to the yard shops, all aim to improve operations and ensure our transit system stays in a state of good repair. #urbanplanning #publictransit #transportation #chicago
