🎙️🚀 Just released a special podcast episode featuring groundbreaking research on "Maternal Uterine Artery Adenoviral VEGF-A Gene Therapy Normalises Fetal Brain Growth and Microglial Activation in Nutrient Restricted Pregnant Guinea Pigs." This study, led by researchers from my alma mater, UCL 🎓, where I completed both my MSc and PhD, holds a special place in my heart. ❤️ The paper dives into the use of adenoviral VEGF-A165 gene therapy to combat fetal growth restriction (FGR) 🧬, a condition currently without effective treatment. By treating the maternal uterine artery with VEGF-A165, the researchers aimed to normalize fetal brain growth 🧠 and reduce brain injury markers in nutrient-restricted pregnant guinea pigs 🐹. The results were promising, showing increased fetal brain weight and reduced microglial activation, suggesting potential for improving neurodevelopmental outcomes in pregnancies affected by FGR. 🚨 Exciting News! 🚨 Our podcast with the authors of "Subclinical Metabolic and Cardiovascular Factors and Brain White Matter Microstructural Integrity in Young Women" is now live! 🎙️📚 This study found that young women with elevated cardiovascular and metabolic risk factors, even outside of pregnancy, show increased brain white matter degradation. Factors like increased adiposity, insulin resistance, hyperlipidemia, elevated blood pressure, and arterial stiffness were linked to these changes. Early detection of these risks is crucial for long-term health. Listen to our latest podcast discussing an innovative study on L-citrulline supplementation in pregnant women with chronic hypertension. This trial delved into the potential of L-citrulline, a supplement known for enhancing vascular health and reducing blood pressure, in a pregnant population. Participants received either a 3-g dose of L-citrulline twice daily or a placebo, revealing high acceptance among pregnant women. The study showed increased levels of citrulline and arginine, especially in those with good compliance, but no significant effect on diastolic blood pressure, uterine artery Doppler, or angiogenic biomarkers was observed. The podcast sheds light on these findings and the necessity for further research tailored to pregnancy pharmacokinetics. Tune in to gain deeper insights into this fascinating area of maternal health research.
