One of the major highlights of last week at techne was having the opportunity to moderate a panel discussion with an authority on education, Dr. Tarek Shawki (Former Minister of Education and Technical Education), my good friend Ms. Dalia Ibrahim (CEO of Nahdet Misr Publishing Group & Founder Of EdVentures ) , and the always impressive Dr. Amr Seda (Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship- BUE) , focusing on the furutre of education and learning. The rich discussion touched on many aspects, and these are the major two points I wish to highlight: 1- Collective wills. Dr. Shawki stressed repeatedly that education can not change or develop without the collective will and power of all stakeholders. No one, no entity can do anything alone! It's when government, people (parents and students), teachers, media, and all stakeholders are on the same page with a unified vision... that's when change and advancement would happen. 2- Institutions role Dr. Seda presented very valuable points. Institutions , education and Private sector must collaborate. Most importantly, and I agree, the role of university is not limited to educating. In fact the most important role is to act as an incubator and facilitator for the learning process. Finally, my own take... It's Critical to differentiate between education , knowledge and learning. As we move forward, it won't be about what certificate you hold. It is all about what you know and what you can do. Listening to Dr. Shawki with his long rich experience and hopeful young spirit and Dr. Seda with his day to day hands on experience and futuristic thinking was such a great mix. Having Ms. Dalia Ibrahim with her practical entrepreneurial and investors perspective was as enjoyable and enlightening as usual. Thanks to EdVentures and techne for putting together the panel and allowing me to be part of what I hope to be a continous discussion.
