We were named in April, but today, on the two year anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act being signed into law as the biggest climate investment in history, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officially awarded our Power Forward Communities coalition a $2 billion National Clean Investment Fund grant alongside our coalition members Habitat for Humanity International, Enterprise Community Partners, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), and United Way. As part of this coalition working on single-family homes and apartments, especially in low-income and disadvantaged communities, Rewiring America will be announcing local community partnerships in the coming months. We're excited to have these resources to help shape the market, draw in private investment to this work, and for families, help make going electric easier! Read the press release here:

The path to electrifying everything is lined with Reasons to be Cheerful, which is also the name of the solutions-minded news organization we’ve partnered with to bring you a yearlong series of electric good news stories. Up first, an article that explores how school districts in California and North Carolina are among those rolling out a fleet of electric school buses, with the help of a portion of the $5 billion in grant funding from the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean School Bus Program. “Some of the drivers don’t want to drive electric, then when they get on and drive it, they don’t want to get out of it!” said Donnie Owle, service manager and vice president of the Cherokee Boys Club, a tribal entity for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians served by the Cherokee Central School System in North Carolina. That system currently has six electric buses thanks to EPA funding, with another 15 buses planned for the fleet. Over the next year, Our Electrifying World will illustrate all the ways electrification is touching our daily lives, as well as explore how to create a more sustainable energy transition. I enjoyed talking about the critical role that states play in leading the nation on clean energy with Leah Stokes and Katharine K. Wilkinson on their A Matter of Degrees podcast. It was especially fun to unpack the national leadership demonstrated by Minnesota the last couple of years and the impact that sustained support for grassroots organizing and coalition building can have on long-term policy change.
