The Governor's Workforce Board proudly supports the JA Inspire 8th Grade Career Exploration Fair because we know it makes a difference! After attending the career fair, many students indicate that they feel they have new ideas and/or a clearer sense of where they may want to go in the future. The event also results in increased applications to career and technical education programs in our high schools. If you're able to do so, please join us in supporting this important program!

At the GWB Annual Event, Skills for Rhode Island's Future received the Workforce System Innovation Award for innovating and improving the Rhode Island Workforce Development System through the workABILITY initiative, which operates in partnership with the Community Provider Network of RI. Skills established the workABILITY initiative in 2020 to help overcome barriers to employment for individuals with intellectual and developmental differences who are often underrepresented in the workforce. Partnership staff work with local employers to understand their business needs and help demystify the process of hiring and accommodating differently abled workers. Since inception, the workABILITY initiative has helped to place 100 jobseekers into employment, and the Governor’s Workforce Board is a proud supporter of the program. Last week, the Board gathered to conclude its FY24 agenda and celebrate partner achievements at the 2024 Annual Event. We were thrilled to be joined by Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos and Dr. Christopher Abhulime as we distributed awards to organizations including the Commercial Fisheries Center of Rhode Island, the Center for Southeast Asians, Skills for Rhode Island's Future, the Rhode Island Builders Association, and Newport Community School. The Board also presented an Exemplary Service Award to Janet Raymond for over 25 years of dedicated service to the state and local workforce boards. Congratulations to all of the Awardees!
