Our Director of External Affairs Wil Fisher served as a panelist for yesterday’s discussion, “Opportunities for Growth: LIC’s Studies and Plans” at the 2024 Long Island City Partnership Summit. We had a thoughtful conversation about LIC’s development plans and Rise’s role in transforming our city’s energy grid, with Council Member Julie Won, Carolyn Grossman (NYC Department of City Planning), Rob Basch (Hunters Point Parks Conservancy), and moderator & Deputy Queens Borough President, Ebony Young, MSOL. Thank you for an insightful event!

At our 2024 Climate Justice Forum, Rise highlighted how our industry can lead the path to a cleaner, more resilient energy future for New Yorkers. As former DEC Chair Basil Seggos put it: “Rise Light & Power is doing something that, historically, utilities did not do: engaging, creating positive change through meaningful authentic relationships, and providing that vision, which is community-based, to the people of the City of New York and the state of New York. That’s something we can be proud of.” With our community’s support, we’re ready to build a Renewable Ravenswood and secure our city’s clean energy future.

As part of #ClimateWeekNYC, Rise was honored to co-host today’s 2nd annual Climate Justice Forum: Building The Green Energy Future With Frontline Communities, alongside our partners at WE ACT for Environmental Justice, NAACP-New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Branch, and City & State. We were joined by a diverse set of panelists and climate experts including National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi and The White House Council on Environmental Quality Chair Brenda Mallory, former DEC Chair Basil Seggos, State Senator Jessica Ramos, NYC Council Member Julie Won, former NYC Council Member and Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens CEO Costa Constantinides, and countless other national and local leaders. Huge thanks to all of our speakers from NYSERDA, NYC Mayor's Office of Climate & Environmental Justice, Foley Hoag LLP, Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, Urban Upbound, and South Bronx Unite! As NAACP-NYCHA Branch President Lynn Spivey, MPA put it, “We are all in for civic engagement, education, and environmental justice. We know that we need to transition to a cleaner and sustainable energy source for our communities because environmental justice IS a civil right.” As we join local communities and work toward NYC’s #cleanenergyfuture, Rise understands how essential it is to transform and modernize our city’s existing energy infrastructure. We’re grateful to have the support of our Queens community in transforming the Ravenswood Generating Station into a renewable energy hub that’ll bring workforce opportunities and help our city meet critical climate & clean energy goals.
