It’s employee spotlight time again! Today we would like you to meet Kristen Swanson. Kristen is an Accountant and HR Manager and has been at RMC for 12 years! “My favorite thing to do is spend time with my family, whether enjoying the outdoors or watching my two boys play competitive soccer. I love that they are doing something they’re passionate about! We have traveled a lot because of it and have been able to see and explore more of the world and country as a result. I also have a love of photography and hope to invest more time in it in the future, once I retire as a taxi driver for my kids. I have always loved numbers and knew at a young age that I wanted to pursue a career involving them. The people at RMC are what drew me to the company! It has been such a fun and rewarding place to work. The partners are wonderful and the culture is family friendly. I have lived here since I was an early teen and love the ties that RMC has to the community. Bellingham is such an amazing place, and I am very thankful to call it home!” – Kristen Swanson #rmcarchitects #employeespotlight #team #bellinghamwa

Strong design makes stronger communities.
About us
We believe architecture should be a celebration of its unique setting—reflecting the values, culture, history, geography, and diversity of people and place. In this way, architecture strengthens community. We seek inspiration from this and add a dash of sustainability, adaptability, and durability to the mix to create projects that endure. Our firm practice revolves around more than excellent design…it is also client focused. Clear communication, empathetic listening, transparency, and responsiveness are essential. Our clients’ vision, goals, timeline, and budget go hand in hand with a project’s success. Along the way, we aim to make the process enjoyable, and the result, a building that makes everyone proud. Since putting down Bellingham roots in 1986, RMC has been constantly evolving and extending throughout our region. Our collective experience is comprised of diverse backgrounds in architecture from major cities throughout the US and Canada. We work on projects of varying scales, budgets, and complexities. Although we are gratified by our respected reputation and design work, we never lose sight of the fact that every new project of any size will be the work by which we are judged today.

We are thrilled to have our work on the new Bellingham Public Schools (BPS) District Office featured in the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce! When BPS approached us to design their new administrative office building, they had several key goals: to create a mobile, open-office work setting; to promote sustainability, health, and well-being within the building; and to ensure that the result was an environment that not only welcomed the community but demonstrated the district’s stewardship of community assets. In addition to the open workspaces, the three-level, 53,000-sf building includes multiple professional learning and conference rooms, an early learning center, a wellness room, a bike storage area, and a central common space with a cafe. The building supports 11,000 BPS students, their families, and all district employees. We were thrilled to have one of our Principals, Brad Cornwell, guide a tour at one of four new Western Washington University (WWU) buildings for AIA Northwest Washington's Sustainable and Equitable Design Tour last week. He discussed RMC’s work at the Multicultural Center, located at the heart of the WWU campus, and was supported in the presentation by Jon Pulver, Project Manager from Dawson Construction (the project contractor) and Forest Payne, WWU Project Manager/University Planner. WWU continues to deliver high-quality education in innovative, sustainable, and equitable facilities for our Cascadia region. #rmcarchitects #highereducationarchitecture #sustainablearchitecture #equitabledesign #WWU #bellinghamwa

We are always inspired by the important work being done by housing and homelessness advocacy groups in our area. At yesterday's North Sound Affordable Housing and Homelessness Policy Forum we heard from a number of agencies committed to addressing the housing crisis. Kudos to Washington Low Income Housing Alliance, Catholic Community Services, Opportunity Council, Pioneer Human Services, and Paul Schissler Associates. A special shoutout goes to Community Action of Skagit County and Dan Mitzel, who teamed up to convert an underutilized office building into Cascade Landing Apartments - a 34-unit mixed use building in Burlington, WA. #rmcarchitects #affordablehousing #homelessnessadvocacy #community
