Rodale Institute’s Vice President of Development, Annie Brown, was featured on the latest episode of Everything You Didn’t Know About Herbalism, presented by Mountain Rose Herbs. Annie shares how the Rodale Institute was founded during the boom of chemicals being introduced to the farming industry and how one businessman’s intuition led him from the hustle and bustle of NYC to rural Pennsylvania; where he studied agriculture practices of Indigenous populations that grew successful crops without the need for synthetic chemicals. From here, J.I. Rodale taught himself and his family how to effectively grow food without pesticides and chemical fertilizers. This led to the founding of the Rodale Institute in 1947, and the revolutionary term,“regenerative agriculture”, was coined. To listen to this episode, please visit: https://lnkd.in/ep_GZZTR

Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) has been a re-emerging crop in the United States since 2014, having been banned for over half a century, with hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) retail sales projected to reach $4.5 billion in 2024. Despite these promising prospects, knowledge gaps in agronomic practices, especially weed management, remain challenging due to the lack of registered herbicides for hemp. Traditional weed control methods, such as plastic mulch, mechanical weeding, and hand weeding, have limitations. In this study, Dr. Dinesh Panday, Dr. Reza K. Afshar, and Dr. Arash Ghalehgolabbehbahani explored the use of a roller crimper for improving weed management in certified organic fields. Additionally, the project aims to explore optimal row spacing and plant spacing for better crop production, including the effect on changing concentrations of secondary metabolites in CBD hemp. Learn more about these innovative strategies in our latest article: https://lnkd.in/esg74VKb
