The City of Rohnert Park recently received financial support for its prohousing initiatives. On August 1, the State awarded the city $670,000 to support predevelopment of affordable housing units in Downtown Rohnert Park. The city received these funds through a grant program called the Prohousing Incentive Program. In 2023, Rohnert Park earned the State Prohousing Designation. The state awards this special distinction to agencies with robust local prohousing policies that go beyond state law. Being a “prohousing jurisdiction” is helpful in receiving and qualifying for grant funding. The state has only granted this designation to 50 jurisdictions. On August 27, the Rohnert Park City Council selected CenterCal Properties, Inc. to develop the 28-acre site near the Rohnert Park SMART station. This development will include retail, a hotel and outdoor community space. It will also include 300 to 500 new housing units, with 25 percent being affordable low-income households. In the coming months, city staff will finalize contracts with the CentralCal Properties, Inc and create a development timeline. The city expects planning and predevelopment to begin in 2025.

It lets City leadership know about the community’s views and concerns on public safety matters. These conversations are the guiding focus of our law enforcement services. Members of the Round Table meet every other month to discuss a range of topics related to policing and community engagement. Members also take part in community outreach, police events, ride-alongs, tours, and more. We are currently accepting applications for the 2024 Community Round Table. If you are interested in contributing to the direction and focus of Rohnert Park’s public safety and working together to best serve our community, please apply! Calling all non-profit organizations! The Rohnert Park Foundation Board met on Tuesday, August 13, to consider the new Rohnert Park Small Grants Program Guidelines. The Small Grants Program is a function of the Rohnert Park Foundation. It focuses resources on and funds a wide range of eligible non-profit projects that enhance and sustain the quality of life in our community. This helps us enhance new partnerships with community members, nonprofits, foundations, public agencies, and similar entities. In the past, the Small Grants Program has funded over $300,000 of community projects throughout Rohnert Park over three cycles of funding. Nonprofit organizations who want to provide a service or offer a project in Rohnert Park are eligible for funding. Eligible nonprofit organizations must qualify under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRS). Applicants will need to complete an “Eligibility Screening Form” to make sure they meet the requirements. Projects supported by the Rohnert Park Small Grants fund should fall into one or more of the following categories: program support, education, community artwork, or community beautification projects. We anticipate opening the application period in September. After the application period closes , Foundation staff will meet with interested applicants to discuss funding amounts, required reporting, the online Small Grants Portal, and provide technical advice. Foundation staff may also provide recommendations that may improve the likelihood that the Foundation Board would approve an application for a grant. All decisions on the grant applications will be made by the Foundation Board. If you would like to receive updates delivered directly to your inbox, contact Paul Carey at pcarey@rpcity.org or (707) 585-6754. You can also learn more about the program in Issue 11 of our newsletter at FriendlyCitySpotlight.com. #RohnertPark #CityOfRohnertPark #TheFriendlyCity
