About us
We believe that when access to quality mental healthcare improves, patients, providers, and payers all benefit. And that’s why we’re on a mission to make mental healthcare work for everyone. If a client's needs become more complex or require additional support, here's a helpful explainer from Ashley Ayala, LMFT and provider at Rula, about how the conversation should go. Here's what else you should be considering: 1. Evaluate the needs Discuss the symptoms, including how severe they are and any potential risks. Consider what this additional service will be able to provide and how it will benefit your client beyond what current sessions can currently provide. This step helps you determine what HLOC is needed, such as an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), or an adjunct service like medication management, and lays the foundation for a collaborative conversation. 2. Collaborative discussion Talk about findings and discuss concerns and recommendations together. It's crucial to have full agreement and understanding before moving forward. 3. Easy referral process Once it has been decided what the best course of action is, Rula makes it simple. Providers can use their care coordination referral to connect clients with the appropriate care quickly and efficiently. We also leave the decision of whether or not to resume care with your client after a higher level of care (HLOC) referral up to you as their clinician. In some cases, this means you'll temporarily suspend seeing the client while they engage in a higher level of care support, such as PHP and IOP. In other cases, you should absolutely continue treating the client while they engage in an adjunct service, such as medication management or group therapy.
