We are thrilled to welcome the 4th project from our latest application round! A warm welcome to Rural BioReFarmeries! 💡🌱 🧑🌾 Rural BioReFarmeries is a rural bioeconomy Innovation Action funded by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking. The mission of Rural BioReFarmeries is to showcase the first small-scale decentralized cascading green biorefinery model and facilitate its widespread adoption to enhance local resilience, sustainability, and economic prospects throughout Europe's rural grassland areas. ♻️ The project will help farmers diversify their product base through the co-production of high-value products like human food protein, flavors, antimicrobials, and packaging, along with essential farm inputs like feed concentrates, bioenergy, and nutrient fertilizers. By bringing together farmers, industries, scientists, and researchers from across Europe, the project aims to demonstrate how a farmer-centric bioeconomy can optimize grasslands and alternative green biomass feedstocks. The Rural Bioeconomy Alliance is excited to have this project as a member, to strengthen the technological innovation and accelerate the transition to a circular bioeconomy. Rural Bioeconomy Alliance (RBA)
Farming, Ranching, Forestry
RBA is a cluster of EU-funded projects for accelerating and supporting the development of Bioeconomy initiatives in EU.
About us
The Rural Bioeconomy Alliance (RBA) is a cluster of European-funded projects aimed at accelerating and supporting the development of circular rural Bioeconomy initiatives in the EU. With a focus on rural sustainable circular bioeconomy initiatives, the RBA investigates, develops, and analyzes success stories, best practices, pilots, as well as ways to increase the adoption of circular bioeconomy concepts, mainly in rural areas. The ultimate goal of the cluster is to speed up the development of the whole bioeconomy by sharing knowledge on project outcomes and supporting dissemination and communication activities related to existing knowledge of the bioeconomy. The cluster's primary focus is on the development of the bioeconomy in rural areas, and therefore all projects must have a significant or sole focus on rural areas across the EU. Members of the RBA can benefit from communication and dissemination benefits, technical validation, exploitation and replication, and potential policy recommendations for the EC. This can include exchanging insights and knowledge on the development of innovative technologies, exchanging information on success stories and pilots, and common organization of workshops and seminars, among other things. As a member of the Rural Bioeconomy Alliance, you can share your knowledge with a wider audience, be featured on a dedicated page on each project's website, and participate in joint presentations at conferences and events. You can also receive technical insight from the sector that can provide valuable feedback for validation of each project's outcomes. Additionally, the RBA can provide a forum for discussing potential policy recommendations for the EC, which can help shape the future of the bioeconomy in Europe. Are you representing an EU project interested in joining Rural Bioeconomy Alliance? Please contact us in ruralbioeconomyalliance@gmail.com and we will guide you through the application and selection process.

The Rural Bioeconomy Alliance is delighted to welcome FUTURAL Project, that is joining us! FUTURAL is set to drive innovation by delivering a suite of digital Smart Solutions (SS) across five key domains, addressing critical social and environmental challenges. At its core, the project will develop an integrated metasearch platform, serving as a one-stop shop for discovering and accessing Smart Solutions from similar initiatives. With six rural pilot areas across the EU—each representing distinct geographical and socio-cultural contexts—FUTURAL will prototype, test, and demonstrate community-led social, technological, and business innovations. This work will be supported by an interdisciplinary consortium and a multi-actor approach, ensuring a structured path toward impactful, scalable solutions. FUTURAL’s mission extends beyond technology. The project will actively engage rural communities, foster public-private collaborations, and cultivate new social practices that drive market adoption and broad societal change. A dedicated EU-wide Rural Innovation Forum (EU-RIF) will strengthen connections with key organizations, networks, and initiatives, reinforcing the European rural development ecosystem. Through an Open Call, FUTURAL will fund projects to develop their own Smart Solutions, expanding their application to other rural areas via the project’s metasearch platform. A sustainable and dynamic innovation ecosystem will emerge, supported by tailored business models that address the diverse needs of rural communities. Additionally, policy recommendations and governance frameworks will be co-created through multi-actor workshops within the EU-RIF, aligning with the European Green Deal, the European Digital Strategy, the European Pillar of Social Rights, and the EU’s long-term vision for rural areas. We look forward to the many achievements and positive impacts that FUTURAL will bring. Welcome to the RBA! 💡 🌱 🌍 Follow for more information: https://lnkd.in/dkdHUFhy Website: https://lnkd.in/eZqeqfJ2

We are delighted to extend a warm welcome to the Thematic European Rural Bioeconomy Network (thERBN EU Project) as a new participant in the Rural Bioeconomy Alliance! The project aims to empower farmers and foresters across Europe by providing sustainable solutions tailored to local needs, thereby promoting the transition towards a more circular bioeconomy. thERBN aims to establish a multi-actor thematic network that bridges the gap between existing innovative circular bioeconomy solutions and the real-world challenges faced by small-holder farmers and foresters at a local scale in rural areas. 🔍 By identifying practical and sustainable approaches to managing biological by-products and residues, thERBN strives to empower practitioners with actionable solutions. As part of its mission, thERBN will ensure open access to long-term digital depositories, like the EU-Farmbook platform. 🌍 Additionally, thERBN will develop #MultilingualTools to facilitate knowledge-sharing and cross-border collaboration. The project will also offer #PolicyRecommendations to support the adoption of small-scale circular bioeconomy solutions on farms. We wish thERBN great success in its mission and look forward to seeing its impact on rural communities across Europe. To stay updated, follow the project on LinkedIn: https://lnkd.in/dhJKZNZi.

We are delighted to announce one of the projects that has become a new member of the Alliance. A warm welcome to ARGONAUT! ARGONAUT aims to create an intuitive and accessible AI-powered tool that calculates the environmental impacts of bio-based products, while using blockchain technology for secure tracking through a “digital passport.” Through the development and implementation of this powerful tool, ARGONAUT aims to provide both current and prospective small and medium sized bio-producers, with access to a new source of clear and relevant information upon which to base their decisions, especially when it comes to fully understanding production options, resource optimisation strategies and the environmental impacts and benefits associated with each of their production alternatives. The project aligns strongly with other Alliance members, fostering synergies that can drive real, positive change for rural development. By enabling data-driven decision-making, ARGONAUT contributes to greater sustainability, circularity, and transparency, ultimately strengthening the bioeconomy.
