Today marks the beginning of year 4 of Russo Structural Services. I was pondering tonight of how to describe what it's been like since I always get asked, "what's it like? are you glad you did it?" and similar questions. This is the idea that came to mind. It's like being the pilot of a doomsday plane. You can't land, you have no landing gear, there are no airports, there is no choice but to keep flying. But at every turn there's another aerial refueling tanker to keep you safe and on your way. As bizarre as that sounds that's the feeling of the day. All of you have been the tankers of my career for over 30 years and now for three strong years getting Russo Structural Services up and running. We recently just started our 36th unique project, with many public and private clients, and collaborators around the country. I am not successful because of me but because of you. You who have taught me so much, have been my collaborators, and have trusted me with your most difficult problems, and some ordinary ones as well. I will continue to serve you and do my best to always be a trusted advisor. Integrity and a commitment to deliver are the hallmarks of what we do because you all deserve the very best. Thank you for your support. I look forward to our future collaboration and new clients and adventures as well.

ATTENTION !!!! The NSBA Steel Bridge Collaboration is coming to my hometown, Philadelphia April 29 - May 1, 2025. The meetings are always 2 full days and a half day on day 3. As with other AASHTO / AISC meetings in Philadelphia, I am your personal tour guide. If you are interested in a City of Philadelphia history and food tour on April 28th (the day prior), get to Philadelphia by the 27th, and we will have a blast. Message me for details and interest. And as always, please consider joining the collaboration anyway. Details are provided below. As a member for many years, I can vouch for how important it has been to my career and business. https://lnkd.in/gXgspXax

September will be three years since the business launched. In that time we are already past 30 individual contracts, some as short as a single day, some lasting a few years. Thank you to all the teaming partners and clients for your trust. Here's a map of where we've been. There is no map of where we're going.

Wishing all the mothers out there a Happy Mother's Day. There is no mold for what a mom does except almost universally being a giver and provider. Whether it's my own mom who never had it easy with anything in life; my wife, who raised our four children while sacrificing her career and her whole self for 18 years as a stay-at-home mom and with a frequently absent husband; or all the other moms I know in life, in my career, and in general, thank you for all you do. One day surely doesn't cut it, and even on this day, you will all surely be busy doing something. But thank you nonetheless.

https://lnkd.in/g72DVQvq Friends. After many years of research, by many parties, the AASHTO UHPC Guide Specs are here. I can attest to the hard work of all parties, the rigor of many ideas brought forth, and a spirit of compromise that is always needed for a consensus document. Reach out to Russo Structural Services if we can be of help in your implementation.

Every year we wish each other peace as the seasons of Hanukah and then Christmas occupy much of the December calendar. And yet everyone is so stressed, yours truly not being immune. Remember, we live the life we created by our actions and inactions. May you all find that elusive peace, some respite, and refocus on the truly important things in life as hard as that seemingly is. I wish you well and may God bless you and your families.

A pause in the lead-up to our annual festivities.
As Christmas and Hanukah near, many will inevitably be asking their kids, friends, and family, about what they want for gifts. Gifts will be given that people don't want or need because it's a habit we have gotten into. This is also the time of year when many charities appeal for help. The common requests are food pantries, the homeless, veterans assistance, etc., all worthy causes. There's even the inevitable coat drive for those "way too many" coats I bet many of us have, including the sizes that don't fit and colors we no longer like. Why this message today? My wife is a special education kindergarten teacher. Her class is mildly to severely autistic children in a poor school district. Today her teacher's aid isn't able to come to work because after paying his bills, he has no money for public transportation. He has a full-time job for a school district and is still paid low enough that he gets food stamps and doesn't have personal or affordable transportation. Forget the holidays, his daily existence is difficult as he cares for some of our nation's most in-need kindergarten children. Pause and think about how and for what we spend our money and what our personal and national priorities are.
