🌈 Happy National Coming Out Day! 🌈 Coming out to live openly isn’t something you do just once or even just one year. It’s a decision we make every single day of our lives. Every coming out experience is unique, and it’s important that it’s navigated in the way that feels most comfortable to YOU. Whether it's for the first time ever or the first time today, coming out is both an arduous journey and a brave decision to live authentically. 💬 “Coming Out” vs. “Inviting In” The term “coming out” traditionally centers on those we reveal ourselves to, rather than focusing on our experiences. It can suggest that LGBTQ+ people are hiding something, rather than acknowledging how societal bias forces many to remain silent. When publicly identifying as LGBTQ+, you are inviting people into a part of your life that should be celebrated and protected. You control your narrative. You are not asking for permission to be yourself. 🌟 Remember, you are not alone. No matter where you are in your journey, we see you, we support you, and we are committed to building a world where every LGBTQ+ person can live a full, authentic life free from bias, discrimination, and hate. Together, we’ll create a future where everyone is healthy, safe, and celebrated. 🌈 For resources on coming out, visit the Human Rights Campaign's guide here: https://heyor.ca/kVt1h3 #NationalComingOutDay #InviteIn #LiveAuthentically #LGBTQVisibility #LoveIsLove #EqualityForAll #PrideAndProgress #YouAreNotAlone #CelebrateDiversity #LGBTQSupport #InclusionMatters #LGBTQVoices #SpeakYourTruth #QueerJoy #BreakTheSilence #ChamberOfCommerce #CommunityEngagement #DEI #DiversityEquityInclusion #DiversityMatters #Education4All #InclusiveWorkplaces #KnowYourHistory #lgbtq #lgbtqeducation #LGBTQHistory #LGBTQRights #SACLGBTQ #SacramentoRainbowChamber #StonewallRiots #TransRights #TransRightsAreHumanRights

This month, we honor the rich history, courage, and achievements of the LGBTQIA+ community, celebrating those who paved the way for equality. October coincides with National Coming Out Day (Oct 11) and commemorates the first March on Washington for Gay Rights in 1979. Join us in recognizing some of the trailblazers who have shaped LGBTQ+ history: ✨ Rita Mae Brown – A pioneering author and activist, best known for her groundbreaking novel Rubyfruit Jungle. ✨ Billie Jean King – Tennis legend and advocate for gender and LGBTQ+ equality. ✨ Bayard Rustin – Civil rights leader and chief organizer of the 1963 March on Washington. ✨ Barbara Gittings – LGBTQ+ rights activist who fought to remove homosexuality from the DSM’s list of mental disorders. ✨ Sylvia Rivera – Transgender activist and a fierce advocate for the marginalized within the LGBTQ+ community. ✨ Harvey Milk – One of the first openly gay elected officials in the U.S. and a beacon of hope for LGBTQ+ rights. ✨ Audre Lorde – Poet and activist who empowered marginalized voices through her writings on intersectionality. ✨ Lou Sullivan – A trailblazing transgender activist who fought for the rights of transgender men. ✨ James Baldwin – Author and activist whose writings on race and sexuality challenged social norms. ✨ Marsha P. Johnson – Transgender icon and key figure in the Stonewall Uprising. ✨ RuPaul Charles – Drag icon who brought LGBTQ+ culture into mainstream media with RuPaul’s Drag Race. This month, let's celebrate these heroes and continue pushing forward for equality, visibility, and love. 🏳️🌈 #LGBTQHistoryMonth #NationalComingOutDay #Pride #QueerHistory #LGBTQRights #EqualityForAll #LGBTQTrailblazers #LoveIsLove #PrideAndProgress #InclusionMatters #DiversityIsStrength #CelebrateAuthenticity #RiseUp #CommunityEvents #CommunityInitiatives #DEI #DiversityEquityInclusion #DiversityMatters #DragIsNotACrime #Education4All #Gratitude #KnowYourHistory #lgbtq #SACLGBTQ #SacramentoRainbowChamber #StonewallRiots #TransRights #TransRightsAreHumanRights #LGBTQRights #lgbtqeducation #LGBTQHistory

We sat down with our incredible board member, Ashley Skeets, for an interview about Hispanic Heritage Month. Check out her response here! What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you? "Hispanic Heritage Month holds special significance for me because I am part Mexican, and I grew up closely with my grandmother, who is 100% Mexican. Through her, I was exposed to this amazing culture, and it has always been a part of my life. Even though I don't visually appear Hispanic, it's a key part of my identity that I fully embrace. This month allows me to get in touch with that part of myself and reflect on the cultural traditions and values that have shaped me. It’s a reminder to celebrate my heritage and the larger Hispanic community that continues to make lasting contributions to society." Are there any Hispanic LGBTQ+ public figures who inspire you? "One figure who inspires me is Amaranta Gómez Regalado, a Muxe activist and politician. The Muxe community, indigenous to Oaxaca near my family’s home state of Guerrero, represents a unique and beautiful expression of gender diversity within Mexican culture. Amaranta has been a trailblazer, advocating for the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals and indigenous communities. Her dedication to bringing visibility to the Muxe community and challenging societal norms is incredibly inspiring. She reminds me of the importance of embracing all parts of one’s identity and fighting for inclusivity and acceptance in every space." How do you hope to see Hispanic Heritage Month recognized and celebrated by the Sacramento business community? "I hope to see Sacramento businesses actively engage in recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month by spotlighting Hispanic-owned businesses, creating inclusive events, and offering educational opportunities about Hispanic history and contributions. It would be great to see more collaborations between Hispanic entrepreneurs and local companies, along with efforts to foster mentorship and networking opportunities for Hispanic professionals in the region."
