The luxury retail industry lost a true leader in Burt Tansky, and his wisdom and outlook on luxury retail helped to make our industry what it is today. We are honored that he helped to shape the Saks Fifth Avenue brand in such a meaningful way. Burt’s family and friends are in our thoughts.
For anyone who worked in luxury retail over the last 30 years, the name Burt Tansky was synonymous with luxury leader. When I started at Saks in 1995, he was already the competition, leading the Neiman Marcus Group to excellence and establishing it as a leader in the space. Before that, he spent much of his career at Saks, as a merchant and eventually as President, before joining Bergdorf Goodman as CEO. He brought the best of Saks to NMG, solidifying its position as the dominant force in luxury retail at the time. Burt was one of a kind and our industry is better because of his drive and vision. Today, as we bring these iconic brands together, much of what he stood for - innovation, selling culture and great product - remains at the forefront of our strategy. On behalf of Saks Global, I offer our most sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
