#HurricaneMilton response continues in Florida. Salvation Army teams are on the ground with meals, drinks, and emotional and spiritual care even for the littlest of survivors. Sarah spoke with us about sharing candy and stickers with the children in line and allowing them to share their stories as well.

About us
The Salvation Army began offering assistance to disaster survivors after a major hurricane hit Galveston, TX in September 1900, destroying the coastal city and killing thousands of people. At the request of The Salvation Army’s National Commander, officers from across the country moved into the Galveston area to help feed and shelter the thousands of survivors, while also providing much needed emotional and spiritual support. Since then, The Salvation Army has responded to numerous natural disasters, transportation accidents, civil unrest situations, and terrorist attacks. By providing beverages, snacks, meals, and emotional and spiritual care to first responders and survivors, The Salvation Army strives to bring hope and healing to people who find themselves in the midst of extremely difficult situations.

She’s known as the Candy Lady, but her name is Dee. Beyond her sweet title, Dee wears many hats: she’s a business owner, a member of the Advisory Board for The Salvation Army, and a dedicated disaster relief volunteer assisting in Western North Carolina after Helene. Every evening after dinner, Dee and other dedicated disaster workers fill plastic grocery bags with candy, ensuring that each mobile feeding unit can share a sweet treat as a simple expression of love for the people they serve. “A piece of candy can bring so much joy to people—from children to big, burly men!” Dee said with a smile. “I’ve watched the most stoic mothers and the toughest men crumble over a piece of chocolate. In those moments, I hug them and provide the love they need as they face the challenges of disaster.” read more: https://loom.ly/kuqJK9A
