It has been a busy summer! Sam Houston EC recently donated backpacks to Livingston Creekside Elementary School for their safety program. Thank you to the Love & Learning Academy for delivering thank you notes, food and more to our linemen in Coldspring. With back-to-school season here, we hope everyone has a fantastic and safe year!

Thank you to Bandera Electric Cooperative, CoServ, Central Texas Electric Cooperative, Inc., United Cooperative Services, Comanche Electric Cooperative - CECA, Grayson Collin Electric Cooperative, Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation and the many others who have sent linemen to East Texas to help restore power to our members. Over 1,000 linemen, contractors, and vegetation management crews from Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma and other states are working across our area. Crews have now restored to 24,000 members following Hurricane Beryl tearing through our area. Some transmission was lost last night which caused some members in Walker and San Jacinto Counties who had service restored earlier to lose it again. Crews are working to restore these areas now. On Sunday, our Youth Tour representatives Rilyn Long and Dixie Hopkins arrived back in Texas! They had a wonderful week in Washington, D.C. touring museums, visiting monuments and making lifelong connections. We already can't wait for next year! #YT24

Sam Houston EC crews and contractors have restored service to more than 34,000 locations following the most recent storm, and they are working now to restore service to the remaining 285 locations. The weather has been incredibly challenging this month, and we appreciate all the contractors and employees that have worked safely to restore service. Responding to the unusual number of large-scale outage situations like our area has experienced this month takes a great deal of teamwork and cooperation. Contractors come from far away to help, and many employees change their normal duties to help support the crews or provide additional information and support to our members. As our employees and visiting crews are pushing to finalize restoration efforts, we extend our thanks to them and to you, our Co-op members.

85 years ago today, Sam Houston Electric Cooperative received a charter from the State of Texas to begin to Power Communities, Improve Lives and Serve with Excellence in rural East Texas. Today, just as it was in 1939, your Cooperative’s primary goal is to provide a better life for its members and the communities it serves. Sam Houston EC's Communications Department received a Spotlight on Excellence Award at the Connect Conference last week in Baltimore, MD. The gold award was for Best Social Media Post. The Co-op's former Chief Communications Officer, Keith Stapleton, received the Autry Leadership Award for Always on Communication. Stapleton still contributes to co-ops at the local, state, and national level. Congratulations!

This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, and we celebrate our incredible system operators. These individuals help our crews understand where any outages may be on the system. They are highly-skilled at reviewing technology and data to help our members receive power as quickly as possible. Thank you for all that you do!
