Proudly caring for Sarasota County's healthcare needs since 1925.
About us
Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is a regional referral center offering Southwest Florida’s greatest breadth and depth of care, with more than 2,500 medical staff and more than 1.7 patient visits across its two hospital campuses, freestanding ER, and network of outpatient care centers. Its flagship 897-bed Sarasota hospital has been consistently recognized as one of the nation’s best, with superior patient outcomes and a comprehensive network of services. In 2021, the public health system opened its second acute-care hospital, SMH-Venice, with 212 beds and full range of specialties to serve south Sarasota County. As the region's only public health system – and only not-for-profit – it also serves as a critical safety net for the uninsured and underinsured in Sarasota County.

Earlier this week, Sarasota Memorial's construction team celebrated a major milestone—the "topping out" of the new 7-story Milman-Kover Cancer Pavilion at SMH-Sarasota! The topping out is a time-honored tradition marking the completion of the building's maximum height, which now stands at 142 feet. To date, crews have poured over 18,000 cubic yards of mixed concrete and installed more than 400 tons of reinforcing steel, bringing us one step closer to a full array of outpatient oncology services—all under one roof.

💙 Meet Mason, a former SMH NICU patient. Each year, around his birthday, Mason and his family visit the NICU to see Dr. Dean Theophilopoulos, the neonatologist who was crucial during Mason’s stay. Mason's journey started with an emergency C-section at 29 weeks. Thanks to Dr. Theophilopoulos and the entire NICU team, he is now thriving and celebrating 10 wonderful years! Mason's mom, Jerrica Sosa, became a NICU nurse after her own journey as a NICU mom, inspired to support families just like hers. #smhBaby #NICUJourney #HealthcareHeroes

💙 With over 2 million people worldwide relying on life-saving dialysis treatment, investigational devices like Gore's InnAVasc immediate-use graft are designed to improve patient safety, comfort, and quality of life. Sarasota Memorial is among 10 research sites enrolling patients in a clinical trial aimed at reducing bleeding complications and enhancing safety for patients undergoing dialysis. Unlike traditional grafts, the device offers a protective backplate, raised target zones, and self-sealing pods to close puncture sites, which can help minimize pain, swelling, and bruising. Patients can also begin hemodialysis immediately after implantation. 🔗https://lnkd.in/ew96Mn8P
